NO MORE FREE SUBMISSIONS FOR GOLD LEVEL MEMBERSHIP?

I received my notice for renewal from PCGS today. There is nothing on paper or online that states that the
Gold Level Membership (99.00) is entitled to 4 free submissions. Have they changed this? Anyone know?

  • WOW. If you are correct, I am very shocked. Not a smart move for PCGS. From what I can tell, you have to be a platinum member to get 8 free submissions. Here is what I see on this site right now:

    GOLD MEMBERSHIP (1 Year)

One Year subscription to the quarterly "PCGS Population ReportSM"
The Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection, 2nd Edition

Plus, all the benefits of Silver membership:

Direct Submission Privileges to All PCGS Grading Services for One Year
One-Year subscription to the On-Line "PCGS Population ReportSM" & "PCGS Price Guide"
Access to all Collectors Universe eShops, Set Registry, and Message Boards
    eZine of your choice
Join at the Gold Level ($99 US or $129 Int'l)

    PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP (1 Year)

A voucher for Eight FREE Submissions (US Coins Only—Excluding Mint Errors). Turnaround time on submission approximately 21 business days.

Plus, all the benefits of Gold membership:

One Year subscription to the quarterly "PCGS Population ReportSM"
The Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection, 2nd Edition
Direct Submission Privileges to All PCGS Grading Services for One Year
One-Year subscription to the On-Line "PCGS Population ReportSM" & "PCGS Price Guide"
Access to all Collectors Universe eShops, Set Registry, and Message Boards
    eZine of your choice
Join at the Platinum Level ($199 US or $229 Int'l)

Maybe it's an error on their part??? image I'd be surprised if they took this perk away from gold members after letting them have it for so many years.

The current levels were set effective 2005. Interesting that people don't really check this out except when renewals are due. Steveimage
  • the other bummer is that the free submissions are for US coins only. Before, I was a member in order to submit Canadian coins. Now there is no point, so I let my membership slide.

Yep, I renewed at the Silver level. Can't see spending the extra $50 for Gold when the only difference is a grading book that can be had for half that.

I did go the $200 route, for the 8 free subs. Why? Because of the quick turn arround times they give them. The eight coins would have cost more than the membership if I had went the quick return, on the $99.00 deal.

I just renewed mine and did the same thing. It is worth it.

it is worth it if they will grade the coins you submit...but that specifically precludes foreign coins!

Anytime I have 7 or more coins that need to go in at the Regular ($30) service grading level, I pay for another family member to join at the Platinum level.
    When in doubt, don't.

Same thing here. The 8 freebies justify the $200 cost.

I would like to see a Super Platinum level. You pay a one time life fee,$3000/$5000,with
a $5.00 grading fee for each coin.
