Grading specials, what's the best you've seen?

I've only been a memeber for a few months, but do the specials get any better than what they've had in the past few months? Has there ever been a "All cards, $5, no minimum" special?" Do they ever get lower than $5 per card?

  • No and no, at least from what I've seen. Some of the regular bulk submission rates used to be @ $4/card, but now even the modern bulk is $6/card, which is why I think not many people use them anymore, as every just waits and submits under the specials, which is why I'm still waiting for my October special submission to post.

When SGC started their set registry, they had a special where any card was 4 dollars with a minumum of 25 cards. That is the best special I can recall from any of the major grading companies.

but will they slab it in a PSA slab? if not, it really is not saving you any money. I might save a dollar now, but will lose half on the resale value and credibilty later. Go PSA!

    It depends on the card.

oh, the propaganda ! I doubt that you want to go into a discussion on PSA's credibility.....now do you?

Credibility no, but resale value would be a good discussion. It is much higher than SGC's.

Zef - while it seems that your statement is true a good amount of the time, its not true across the board. SGC has made great strides and in many sales, has topped its PSA counterpart.

SC, Apparently SGC's board isn't so great though is it? How many "great strides" has SGC made in terms of visits to their board? I don't know why you feel the compulsion to constantly harp on how great SGC is on the PSA board. Obviously, most members of the PSA board are going to hold positive regard for PSA, which is not "propoganda" . And, while there are always exceptions, you know as well as I that the general card buying public favors PSA which is evidenced by PSA holdered cards commanding higher prices overall. ZEF is right. That is beyond honest debate.

    Bobby,

First off, you are comparing apples to oranges. The great strides I mentioned refer to the documented sales, as that comment was made....not to the amount of hits a message board receives. I have no problem with members of this board holding PSA in high regard. I was merely offering a suggestion as far as grading specials to the initial poster.

Why do you feel the need to so strongly defend a product that according to you has such a foothold on the hobby?

oh and by the way, it wasn't me that first mentioned SGC in this thread!

SC, There is really no need to defend PSA on a PSA board...duh. I choose PSA, you choose SGC. Fantastic. I wish you luck in your collecting endeavors.

Apples to Oranges? That makes no sense to me. The point ZEF made was precisely about the sales to sales comparison which is what I reinforced. The board membership comparison was simply an aside in further comparison of the two companies.

I have just noticed you like to boast about SGC on this board, the PSA board mind you. This is likely because no one would listen on the other board...literally. If I even mention something favorable about PSA over there you guys go nuts. Members over there don't treat PSA "fans" with nearly the same courtesy sa SGC folks are treated over here. I have witnessed it. I don't even go to your board any more for two reasons: 1) it's a graveyard, and 2) a near venomous hostility toward anything PSA exists.

Finally, I really don't care who you get your cards graded by. I hope you enjoy whomever you choose and wish you well in building your collection. But, I don't believe for one second that SGC is the superior grading company. The numbers just don't demonstrate that.

ive only had 4 cards graded by PSA ever.....but during that SGC set registry special had a SLEW of cards graded....4 per card was the deal...no matter what the card as long as it was post 80 or something....pre 80 was like 6 a card i think....i had a crapload of MODERN graded...least 40-50 cards.....CHEAP.

that was like 2-3 years ago...ive yet to have any cards graded by anybody since then.

  • bobby,

I dont really see the need to hijack this thread any further. Whether or not you feel "loved" by the SGC board as a PSA collector is open to your interpretation. As an "SGC folk", there are times where I have not been treated here with the courtesy that you mentioned, although such instances are few and far between. There are people who do post PSA related questions, pics etc across the street and they are accepted. I think personally that most of the negative comments towards PSA related topics across the street center around the distrust of the PSA product since "the incident". Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying that SGC cases are perfect and that it hasnt happened before. I just think that the perception exists (in some cases) that any super nice PSA slab is suspect.

With that said, enjoy your collection, whether slabbed or raw. We should do our best to promote the hobby for the pure enjoyment that it brings.

ok GoBravesGo, from the beginning...Follow the statements....

Mine - "SGC has made great strides and in many sales, has topped its PSA counterpart".

Bobby's - How many "great strides" has SGC made in terms of visits to their board?

I'm talking sales, he's talking message board hits..........

    hence, apples and oranges.
