I just received my 21-D today. I am very pleased with mine. It is loaded with flash and the toning is much, much lighter than their photo show, and lighter than my photo.

I'm not dis-pleased with mine but it is a coin that I could sell with no regret. I am dis-pleased with a batch of NGC coins I won. Every darn one of them has this look below.
Fourteen of them that have all been conserved. AU58's thru MS64. Just plain ugly in my opinion. And to top it off the AU58's that I bought especially for a set that is being put together are over graded. I take back every single good word I have said about NGC and the way they have cleaned up their act.
Rant Over.

I think you may remember my NGC story. MS61 1923-S now PCGS MS63. Too bad you aren't happy with yours. I thought I was going to have buyer's remorse!

There grading has taken a serious slip in mercury dime grading the last 1-2 years.
My NGC 1923-s 61fb the first time got DNC at pcgs, I cracked it, now its in a PCGS AU58 holder.
I have a few other mercury dime stories just like that.

I agree with Ken also on the 16 dime if they are calling it better than AU, but I personally like the 18-S.
JMHO.

Ken, I have a feeling you're "overly" honest and forthright....
Tony, are you sure you're not just "rationalizing" the grade vs. coin, now that you've seen it? A good test is typically thinking about "would this coin be desireable to a new buyer, and if I sold it would it be able to sell for as much or more"? If you anwsered yes, then you truly got a nice dime/deal!!
Personally, I've not answered yes to the above question, Tony, to any Heritage Merc in about 6 months to a year.
I actually like the 18S - don't feel anything less then admiration. You know I love the original preserved surfaces and all - this example seems to fit the bill....sooo it's not just "ok I guess"
Sorry about your NGC fiasco - while I've berrated them for a long time.... I came to realize they are not that horrible compared to various fiascos I've seen with PCGS. They just never did grade merc's accurately, and while there are many exceptions by and large no one comes close to PCGS in grading mercury dimes. Mike I know what you are going to say ....but regardless in the end of the day you and I and every other dealer/knowledgble collector would prefer mercury dimes in PCGS plastic.
Tony nice pick up - looks great from the picture - have fun with her tonite

I'm not sure if someone else would buy it or not, or if I would break even or not. I expected much worse than what I received. I didn't expect the coin to be loaded -- absolutely loaded -- with flash. I just wish I could get better photos to show what the coin really looks like.
Here is a different image.

The obverse strike is average, but the reverse at least has a partial crossband, which is better than many '18-S's.
I sold off all of my NGC Mercs a couple of years ago, then was foolish enough to buy a couple in an auction. Never again! They were both overgraded by at least a full point.
