Don't forget NCAA hockey is underway as well! CCHA is actually holding their own in non-conference play so far this year.

Is it a revolution Buckeye, or simply an uprising?

I live in Peterborough, Ontario, a mid-sized city (by Canadian standards anyway) about an hour outside of Toronto. Our junior hockey team, the Peterborough Petes, are currently ranked the #1 junior team in Canada. I am a season ticket holder and love taking my sons to watch future stars like Jordan Staal (he is the younger brother of Carolina's Eric Staal, he also played for the Petes), Steve Downie (Flyers first round pick) and Daniel Ryder (Flames secound round pick and younger brother of Habs' star Michael Ryder).

The Petes hold the distinction of having appeared in more Memorial Cup finals than any other junior team in Canada; they have been in seven I think, though they only won one Mem. Cup. Also, they have sent more players to the NHL than any other junior team in Canada. Some notable alumni include Steve Yzerman, Bob Gainey, Chris Pronger & Eric Staal, among many others. Coaches who began their careers here include Scotty Bowman, Mike Keenan and Gary Green.

Hockey rules...especially for us border states like Michigan. Unfortunately, the south and west has yet to fully embrace the sport. That's a shame. I'd rather spend my time watching hockey than that silly basketball game. Last 2 minutes of any game takes like 30 minutes real time. Too many freaking time outs. There is no flow.

I'll watch when the Pistons are in the finals again this summer. Until then, just not into it man.

Yeah, I'm stoked even though the Blues are putrid.

  • How about those N.Y Rangers !!

Sports Illustrated had them ranked 30 out of 30 teams before the season started

They wasted all of those years losing with high salary players when they should've been rebuilding with younger guys like they are now

I never realized until seeing that pic that Cheech Marin of Cheech and Chong fame was once a St. Louis Blue.

I believe that we are witnessing a change of the guard in the NHL. Every night the highlight reels feature great young stars like Ovechkin, Datsyuk, Spezza, Stall and Crosby. If I had to call it right now I think I'd say that Ovechkin will win the Calder as rookie of the year. The guy is simply outstanding. His goal in last nights shootout was unreal. I am more interested in watching games now than I have been for several years.

Hmm, I never noticed the resemblance, but you're right, Rob. But it is definitely no longer the NHL of guys like Harold Snepsts. I like it a lot, though. I'm just mad at myself for not buying RC's of some of these exciting young players during the lockout when one probably could've had them dirt cheap. I haven't bought any yet, but I've at least been browsing for cards of guys like Staal and Spezza - and I've probably bought less than a half-dozen new hockey cards in the last four years. The NHL should use that fact to promote the game instead of those stupid My NHL ads.

  • My favorite old-time hockey photo

    image
  • Mac,

That's the greatest hockey photo of all time. Sugar Jim Henry and the Rocket after one of the greatest and bloodiest battles ever. It captures the true essence of the sport that few understand unless brought up around the game. Two teams absolutely destroy each other but respectfully acknowledge each others talent and hard work when its done. Truely the noblest of sports. Played by real men. T.O.'s need not apply.

My second all time greatest photo though I may be a little biased...
