I was going to get a box of pennies, but I was debating if I would have any luck in finding any of the 18 that I need to finish my whitman. What do you think atarian? I have a list of a few that I need in my signature. Mostly keys and semikeys, I don't think my chances are very good image

  • shoot me a line , xmas of 03 my manager at blockbuster had roll after roll of wheats they got from the bank. i got 2 rolls and had a field day after they were all gone i learned the whole 25$ box was like that. so i mean they are out there. The boxes i get vary some are 40s and 50s butlike the ones i got today alot of 20s and 30s came out of it. so its very well possible to get important dates. Dont hold your breath for a 09S VDB or even a 14D or even 22 plain. but other ones i can see as real possible. might be low grade but they are out there.

The FRB drops off boxes of 25 bucks worth of pennies, I've never done it before, but I can imagin that you can ask for a box image

  • you can go to any bank and have them order a box of pennies. that one box in 2003 happened to be all wheatys . that is highly unusal. but yeah any bank that has nice tellers will order you box or 2 of pennies. after 2 yrs the tellers know me very well each person has 2 or 3 post its of what i want. or looking for. and rarely ill order 200$ in pennies or $500 in halves. but they will do it for me and not many others.

$25 face value boxes of cents can be purchased at nearly any bank. Lucky enough to find any wheats in them, very lucky to get the whole box as wheats. It's not common at all, and if you are out there digging through change looking for coins from the 20s, you'll spend the rest of your life looking...or you could spend a few bucks and fill the books far more easily.

    Edited to add:

When I get Canadian cents I do the best I can to stick them back in the rolls and give them back to the bank. They're worse than worthless, they screw up the weight of the roll and are often rejected. They won't even go into the coinstar type machines. I try hard to get rid of them back to the banks and usually end up pocketing them and spending them at the convenience stores. Why anyone would actually want to keep them is beyond me.

<< <i>Lucky enough to find any wheats in them, >>

Actually you'd be surprised, as most of the wheaties in my whitman came from rolls at the bank. Although I have never gotten a box of pennies, I have gotten atleast 30 bucks worth over a period of time (I'm saving the memorial's from the rolls for my future kids to search through and fill albums) I have purchased maybe around 25 different wheaties, but the rest I have found from rolls, and currently I'm only missing 18.

I don't think atarian was planning on keeping these, just stating that he found canadian pennies image

  • Hit stores like Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks for some rolls..they usally come thru if they know you or you're a regular

My bank (BoA) has these boxes as well, ours are cardboard. For whatever reason, the bank near work usually has fresh cents & the bank near home has circulated cents (usually hand-wrapped).

I LOVE searching rolls... ALTHOUGH I have to hide my activities from friends & family... image

PS A few members in one of my coin clubs search 50-c rolls, you would be surprised how many walking lib halves are still out there!

In 2002 the Canadian dollar was worth 60c. Now it is 85C. If metals prices keep rising then they may be worth more than a Lincoln cent. image
