Poll: Fantasy football - a cool thing or just a fad for geeks?

Seems to be a pretty popular game on these boards, so I thought I'd ask. Fantasy sports in general I suppose..

Was thinking about this a few weeks ago at the Pats/Bills game after the kid next to me (dressed in Pats garb) was swearing and upset after the Pats won, mumbling something about being happy they won, but something "guys on his fantasy team" and he was pissed. Needless to say, he nearly got beaten up. Repeatedly.

I think it runs the gamut from people who do it for fun, to people who take it WAY too seriously.

I like it because it makes me more interested in all the other games as well...and it brings to light a lot more matchups.

I don't indulge in fantasy anything anymore (used to do baseball) but if one has the time and focus fantasy leagues are a great hobby!

I'm with SoftParade. Although sometimes frustrating, it can be great fun. Especially when you win!

I have been playing fantasy football since 1988, and fantasy baseball (NL only) for the past few seasons. Our football league is a group of friends and has been basically the same 12 guys for the past ten plus years ... talk about smack talk! Like the Eagles, I am basically done this season but there is always next year.

The geeks now are the ones NOT playing fantasy football.

Read a report that says over 30 MILLION people in this country play fantasy sports.

It's harmless, and a fun little diversion. I play in several football and baseball leagues every year, and always enjoy it. Especially the ones where you play against the same guys year after year.

Unquestionably a lot of fun, yet just as frustrating when your team sucks and when your "real" team sucks.

We've had a blast with it, in our twelfth year. 12 guys get together, draft, drink, talk smack, and enjoy the football season. First place pays over $500 so it incorporates a little gambling too.

Who's going to make fun of us?? Guys who collect ball cards???

Wait.......I do that too. But I don't like Star Trek and I used to get laid before I got married, so I'm not that geeky, right??

A good way to keep in touch with friends in everyone's busy lives image

If you still live and die with a team, then it does interfere with that somewhat image
