Both are great players...arguably the best of their generations.
Both are squeaky clean who never have problems with the law, their women, or their teammates.
Yet both, for whatever reason, are never embraced by fans or the media. Is it because they keep everyone at bay? Are they seen as 'cold' and therefore we can't embrace their accomplishments?

Agree with your points and comparisons, but while ARod may not be embraced by fans on this board, he is certainly embraced by people who truly know baseball. Ask anyone who "knows" baseball to name the 5 best players, and ARod should always be on that list...if not, well, then....what I can I say about that individual?
Duncan on the other hand is one of the best, but his position is not as sexy as guard, etc. and he plays in a smaller market. When asked to name the best NBA players, one may have to be reminded of Duncan.
Remember these Chuck Norris Facts
1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris
Obviously the greedy MLB players associatin would never let that happen. Turk Wendell wanted to play for a dollar or something, and that
guy probably would have, but it wasn't allowed by the association.
It is hard to embrace filthy rich people, and impossible to embrace rich people who are jerks and out of touch with reality. Add those aholes who testified about the Oil gouging. Didn't you just want to rip out their nuts when listening to them and the lawyers?
<< <i>Arod isn't embraced because he is seen as a greedy SOB, plain and simple. He would have to play for free on his next contract to erase those feelings. Everyone recognizes how good he is, and I obviously recognize it, but I personally think he is greedy and out of touch with people. When they say it "isn't about the money" I always want to throw up! Giambi was the same way when he left Oakland. That jerk wanted the extra few million, and then had the nerve to say it "wasn't about the money." My hairy buttocks it wasn't! Then play for free if it isn't! So why would anybody embrace people like them?

Possible valid points, but Arod was willing to shave off ($10 million I think?) of his contract to play in boston, but the player's association wasn't having it.
And it's always about the money...who among us would have turned down $25 million to play in Texas? There isn't a person on this planet who would have.

Agreed. If someone comes up to you and says I will pay you $25 million a year to play a game when everyone is making $10 million, what are you to say?
1. Ummmm......I don't think I'm worth $25 million and don't think it is fair to my team mates or league for me to make 2.5x what everyone else makes, so I will only accept $10 million.
2. Hell Yeah!!!!
I'm guessing most people choose #2. Don't blame ARod for his contract. he took what was offered as would anyone. Blame that hick from texas Tom Hicks for throwing all of this money at him.

<< <i>What the heck? These guys are fully embraced by fans and the media. They are unreal talents and aware of their "role model" status. WTF are you talking about....Axtell? Jeez. >>
Really, you think so?
Fully embraced? Then explain why Arod always has such a dark cloud of negative fan energy surrounding him? Why isn't Duncan spoken of in the same breath of the greats like Kobe or Shaq?
Example, look how many people here have such negative opinions of Arod. Look how much negative press he gets in NY. He goes to a poker club (oh my god!) that's not illegal to do, yet it's like he's a felon. I think Ray Lewis' murder case got less press.
Duncan is the same way...a truly remarkable, unselfish player yet doesn't get the attention he deserves.
I don't know why YOU feel the need to turn a post asking for opinions into an argument...it's something you seem to feast upon. I'd suggest a new hobby, as your time here is obviously so stressful you have to lash out at every opportunity.

Don't forget this part - Duncan is a champion in his sport (several times) while A-Rod continues to come up empty here.
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
<< <i>Tim Duncan is an elite player and never gets in trouble with anybody....but he is not the best player on the planet. >>
Not currently...after his 17th NBA season - BUT there was certainly a 10 year stretch of time where you wouldn't have been able to put more than 2-3 other basketball players' names in the same argument for "best on the planet". He was most definitely top 3 at the least for a very good stretch - an absolute pleasure to watch and there will never be another like him.

Don't get me wrong...if I was to name an all time top 20 he would be in it.
How would you compare Duncan to Elgin Baylor?
