A lot more Whitman Guidebook series books are coming by the end of the year...
I took a look at the Whitman Books site to see when the QDB Nickel book was coming out. I found out there there are a lot of other titles coming down the 'pike. Here is a list. I am not sure who the authors of these will be, but it seems that Whitman is making an effort to cover the entire US series. Does anyone know who will author these books?
Available later this year...
A Guide Book of Indian and Flying Eagle Cents
A Guide Book of U.S. Commemorative Coins
A Guide Book of U.S. Barber Silver Coins
A Guide Book of Liberty Seated Coinage
A Guide Book of Colonial Coins
And Many More…

(Just kidding, I would not have purchased the IHC book were it not authored by a forum member.)
Edit: I will skip the Barber book.
but there is also a Whitman book by Bill Fivaz coming out on
" United States Gold Counterfeit Detection Guide "
Great photos, blow-ups, details, what to look for, etc.......
There's been a few books on NG gold over the Years
(Lonesome John did two very good books 25 years ago!),
but this is the most comprehensive I've every seen on
U.S. Gold - highly recommended when it's issued.......

I think QDB has finished 67 different books while I've been working on 1
Betts medals, colonial coins, US Mint medals, foreign coins found in early America, and other numismatic Americana
<< <i>I am the author of the Flying Eagle and Indian cent book. >>
When does it come out?
Don't pay any attention to that RYK guy. No one likes him anyway.

The Morgan Dollar book was a disappointment. It seemed like an abridged version of Van Allen's book.
I had low expectations for the U.S. Type Set book, but I was pleasantly surprised. The brief descriptions of each series is ok and Bowers advice on collecting is always helpful.
I do get the sense that these books are "rushed" into production. The research in the two that I have is not necessarily ground breaking. However I'm looking forward to the next set of books since I don't know much about any of those series, especially the IHC book.
I think that you are correct. I could not care less about non-"naked eye" varieities, but that does not mean that I do not like to learn as much as possible about the coins in series I collect AND series I do not currently collect.
