Washington Quarter Field for Grading Purposes

When a Washington Quarter is grade what area of the coin's obverse and reverse is considered the field for grading purposes?

    The field of any coin is the flat, non-design part of the coin. For the Washington quarter, the obverse head of Washington is the design, the area around the head is the field. For the reverse, the eagle is the design, the area around the eagle is the field.
