CoutrySideIllinoisCoinShowNov13,2005AD

I went to the CountrySide coin show last Sunday, Nov. 13 and it was great. Why I didn't know about great shows like this in the past is beyond me. Funny thing is several Months ago when I first heard about this show I looked up directions on Map Quest. They gave me instructions that would have taken me all over the globe I think. At the bottom it stated about 20 miles and about 3/4 of an hour. Then I noticed on the attached map that the show was just off a road that is right by my house. I took that road all the way there, made one right turn and was there. Actually, 12 miles and about 35 minutes. There appeared to be about 100 dealers and lots of buyers when I first arrived in the morning and the crowd continued to grow. All the dealers were very friendly and ran into one of the members of this board there who is always friendly. On the way to the show I stopped at a place and got some lunchmeat for later. Put it in a cooler in the my auto trunk. NO ice so at the show I went to the convection stand and asked for a cup of ice. They charged .50 for a really small cup of ice and it washn't even full. After putting that in the cooler in my car I really went through that show and ended up buying from almost the same 3 dealers I usually buy from. Cheapest prices. I spent about $1,000 and ended up with about 40 coins that I just had to have. One odd thing was the extensive use of smaller than normal 2x2 cardboard coin holders. Appeared about 1 1/2"x 1 1/2" and those dealers only used 3 staples instead of the 4 I usually find in the 2x2's. NO big thing but does help in opening them. Unusual amount of younger collectors at this show. One teen was looking though a box of Lincolns that were all for .10 and he told the dealer he was looking for a 1909. The dealer said if you don't find one in there I'll give you one free. I thought that was so great I bought something from him instead of just looking for a better deal but he did give me a good deal anyway. I spent way to much time there but there was so much to see and really had a great time. Many dealers noticed I was walking with a cane and said to just sit down at their visitors chair and rest. Like I said, great show. Got to get back there next Month. There is a coin show there every second Sunday of each month.

<< <i>anything good in Southern Illinois? >>
Seems that the only Southern IL shows around are Olney, Fairfield, and Metro-East (Collinsville, Dupo, Fairview Heights). Now, if someone organizes one in, for example, Mt. Vernon or Marion, I would bet that the turnout would be good, at least in theory. Oh, there is a show coming up in Mattoon on Sunday 11/27 at the Burgess-Osborne Hall, located at 1701 Wabash (1 blk west of Lake Land Blvd) in Mattoon. I was there last year - the show was decent for the area.
Another subject, BBN - is the coin club in Marion, IL still around? Let me know via private message. Thanks!

The local dealers usually go to the one in Fairfield. I've considered going sometime but it would be painful to go without a wad of cash.
