SELLING COINS - RECOMMENDATIONS

am contemplating selling my PCGS Registry Set of 20th Century Type Coins and was wondering what other members have experienced with respect to the various sales avenues available as follows:

Auction by major firm (e.g. Heritage, B&M, etc.)
Direct sell to major firm
Auction on Ebay
Direct sell in the PCGS message boards
Other

I am interested in getting the highest price (net of commission/buyers' fees) and have some time to sell the coins. Any help from other members would be appreciated.

  • I have some selling Time on e-bay, what i have seen lately is just is the bottom of the barrow. snippers, just seems no one wants to give a fair value. they want the coins for nothing. i would not even think on putting a full set on e-bay. the listing fee would just eat you alive. the only place i have seen a fair value is at heritage or tela-trade. allso offer them here . i have seen good prices here. i have bought a few here allso. so i would say sell here or a main auction house.
    hope this helps

  • Thanks. I've done a bit of research and it appears that the higher prices seem to come from Heritage auctions with B&M close behind for the type of coins that I am interested in selling. Thought about using E-Bay but wasn't sure I wanted to do all the work associated - e.g. photos, posting, packing, shipping, returns, etc. How's the market been lately? Looking at the PCGS indexes it appears that it's been lackluster except for Gold and Rarities but all they hype indicates it's still a very hot market. Who to believe?

    deltadon,

If you've done some research & you know the prices sellers are getting going through Heritage, B&M and other major auction houses.....and have a feel for eBay....then why don't you offer them here for the same price minus the juice?

If those are real prices you are working with, with a discount that you would have to pay the auction house anyway, folks here would probably eat them up as they (we) are aware that we would be savig the 'juice' too!
