Starting over......and who are the best dealers?

I sold all my coins a little more than a year ago and had to take off my less than 90% completed sets. 2006 is right around the corner and I think it's time to end my coin sabbatical. Rather than be all over the Registry, I'm going to try to focus on 1-3 areas.

I'm looking for suggestings. I want something fun, but challenging...but don't need another mortgage either. Please pass on your thoughts. I'm going start with the day after Thanksgiving.

Lastly, please let me know who you think the best three dealers are for Registry quality coins. Thanks!

Mansco

I guess that really depends on what series you were pursuing.....Different dealers for different kinds of coins....
  • Hi jpkinla,

What if you recommend a series and suggest the dealers who might be of most help. I'm just trying to get some ideas and the thoughts of Registry members as to who they would work with if they were to pursue their suggestion.
  • I'd suggest a colonial set - be it by type, variety, or perhaps one specialized area.

Its still uncrowded in this field, and you can buy some beautfiul, historic amazingly rare coins for the price of generic Federal material.

As for dealers, PM me and I can give you a list.

also on the pinnacle web site is a section for research and articles all about the above coins and how to start collectinmg them what to watch out for

all free to read on the site

and many good advices for collectors wanting value and opportunity for their hard earned dollars
  • I have been leaning towards an early federal 18th century type set (1793 - 1800 PCGS certified). Anyone have any recommendations for dealers?

Don't forget that auctions often offer the best coins available...

All dealers have their own profit needs too. To think that there can be a group of best dealers for registry coins ultimately will lead to you getting some off-quality coins. They have to make a living too.

It's up to each of us to do the work. No matter who the dealer is,
I'd say at least 50% or more of the coins that they put in front of me just don't work. They are not good value nor good quality for the grade/price. For the majority of dealers that number is more like 90+%.
