1954 Topps

Has anyone else noticed that 90% of the sellers of the 1954's on ebay do not accept paypal? It is unreal. I can understand some of the reasons for not taking paypal, but if only for convenience, I always bid much stronger when it is a paypal auction. I hate dealing with money orders or waiting for personal checks to clear.

  • As someone who sells a few items on Ebay, the bad thing about Paypal is it's so easy for the buyer to pull a scam on the seller - especially for items over $100. A person can easily get an item AND their money back from Paypal (who takes it from the seller and charges the seller $10 for doing so!). (I won't go into details for obvious reasons - too many scammers already, don't want to add more temptation image ) Just way too much risk.

On the other hand, as a seller of sports cards, I have noticed that almost every single bidder on my auctions has had 100% feedback, which gives me a lot of confidence in taking any form of payment. Must be a pretty honest bunch.

I know there are dirtbags out there, but so far I am batting 1.000.

  • Paypal does have scammers, but if you put delivery confirmaton on every item you sell, you get rid of a lot of problems.

I, actually prefer it when people pay me via Paypal. It's easier than going to the bank for a cashier checks. Of course I am not a powerseller.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

I like paypal - the protection and convenience as a buyer.

But, paying by check to a responsible seller is no big deal to me. I don't buy a lot and it's not like I'm waiting for a kidney or anything? image

I haven't been working on the 1954 set so I haven't noticed this one way or the other. But perhaps you're looking at sellers auctioning those 1954 Sports Illustrated cutouts, which are worth nothing. So maybe these sellers don't want to take PayPal because of all the potential chargebacks to them when people find out after receiving these cutouts that they are worthless.

    Steve,

The real deal, not SI. Almost all refuse to take paypal.

I collect this set, and have found most of the sellers to take PayPal.

    Nick,

Look at all the sellers over the last week or so. Dilsterman, bigredmachineinc, nico01052001 , dslsports, iratherbedrivingmy1957chevy, tonyetrade, barnettscards. All do not accept paypal.

DSL sells everything, not just '54. The same holds true for barnettscards.

I've purchased '54s from 9 sellers lately. dilsterman was the only one who didn't accept PayPal.

I wasn't saying 1954 sellers only. Just anyone selling 1954's.

  • even with dsl not taking paypal you can shop with them for over a month, pay $8 total for shipping and mail them one check. unless you are in a hurry for your cards you can save a lot of money on shipping with them.

MickeyMutt - What scam are you talking about? I accept paypal and use del confirmation with no problems.

Also what do other sellers use for Canadian buyers? USPS won't accept Del Conf for Canada and the other options are expensive. So far I've been lucky, but I am concerned about selling a high dollar card to our friends up North.
