I haven't had time to add up all the Spinks prices yet, but I don't expect the reserve to be reached. After all, this is LLoyd we are talking about, and his primo coppers don't go cheap. I would love to have that set.
I gave it a shot with my old 2003, but what about the Freeman varieties and the unlisted ones, such as the (unheard of) inverted one? There's the trick about this set's price.
I tend to disagree with spinaker, this amazing set will soon be sold, on or off ebay, it's too good to be true. But yes, at Lloyd's conditions. Stunning photography and presentation too.
I'm the current underbidder. My 2003 Spink lists the total @ around 1500 GBP, I figured a 2100 bid would be enough to cover the increases in price and the unlisted varieties.
But like spinaker said, we're dealing with madman Lloyd here, he won't even reveal his reserve to me, a Darksider after all. No big deal.

Well, the 2006 Spink tallies to exactly £1567 for the 74 listed issues for Red, Full Lustre Uncs. As to the Freeman pieces and the error coins??? I plead no knowledge as to their worth.
I do like that 1966 wrong flan error, but the Freeman minutia doesn't interest. I'd say 25-30 or so would be worth cherry-picking.
For academic interest only - is there are profit to be made by buying this set and selling the pieces individually or is the real value in the completeness?
At that price, if you're only after a handful of the dates you end up selling the balance of the pieces at big loss. Most of the dates within 1902-1970 aren't really that expensive individually.

I recalculated with my 2003, and the total for the 74 listed coins comes up to £ 1216.75,not ~1500 as I initially posted. 10 Eddie VII (@ £325), 27 George V (@ £745) ,19 George V and 18 Elizabeth II. A 28.78% increase in three years. I believe the average halfpenny collector could live without the extra 10 coins, all post 1940 varieties and errors and therefore could assemble this set with patience for less than the current price, let alone the reserve.
w/o the vips and the varieties, the set is very do-able in the $400-$500 range. even with a couple of the varieties, it's still less than a $500 set.
don't know about your set, Terri, but my set of ships (1937-1967) with some duplicates and a couple of the varieties (the '56 on a bead and the '57 calm sea) still has less than $300 in it.
