Now if we could just get the olympics to start handing out medals for 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th place ... I'd be all set!
Nice Job again Mike!

<< <i>Definitely, BDTM. I love that Bell set of yours. >>
Thanks. I'll be posting scans of all of them as soon as I can find a new flatbed scanner. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find them around here. They no longer carry them (a flatbed scanner that IS NOT a scanner/printer/fax combo) at Wal-mart, and both of our local computer shops say there is no longer any call fot hem so they don't carry them either.
BTW, I love looking through your vintage football website. Gret stuff.

What a great service for us football guys Mike.
Keep it coming ... and thanks, we appreciate your efforts ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
First, thanks to Mike(Couldabeena) for giving me his 1963 Stancraft set graded 10.0 simply because he felt sorry for my weak showing. Mike, I would have given you at least $100 for that set ....but thanks anyway for the charity.
I am also submitting 15 sets(1100 cards) to PSA including some of the CFL sets, Kahns, 65-67 Philly FM, Topps Team set etc that are now included. As soon as my new best friend Joe Orlando sends me some large holders these are off.
But still, I don't think that will get me to number one so the only thing that I can think of is Fuzzdude selling me the cards I need to dethrone MOSH. Or maybe some of my other friends like Frank Evanov will take pity on me and sell me his 64 Philly FB set for a cheap price.
Lastly on a serious note I would like to thank Mike Thomas for putting this all together and inventing another way to keep collecting fun. If you guys have not bought from Mike check out his web site--and you couldn't deal with a nicer guy. Mike is a lock to make my 5th annual Top 10 Dealers of the Year to be released next month(Now Mike about all those 60 and 61 Fleer psa 9s you have......).

Now Jim if you would jst sell me some key cards from your hoard i can maybe grab a medal spot for myself.
Good to have you back DAV.
And by the way a bilaw to being a member of the 60,s olympics as all 67 philly psa nines must go to SKINSFAN :
Thank you--I would love to sell you some cards at a cheap price but I have a favor--1966 Topps is one that I have targeted to get to 3rd place--and the guy I have to knock opff is I'm Back who has an e-mail of jelly_man--any idea of how I can get him to sell me the cards I need to advance???
Dav
Let's have a party!
Welcome back Jimalillo! I just hope my 63 Stancraft set BRIBE was enough to loosen up some of those 48 Leafs and 50 Bowman PSA 9's you're still holding for me. I also remember you mentioning you were thinking about playing in my new 51 Topps Magic pool.
As for Skinsfan selling anything cheap .... I'm not sure that's possible. He still thinks every card he has is a low pop and every card you try to sell him is an over priced common. You should have heard him last week trying to gank me on some packs I bought from him ... then he has the nerve to knock me out of first place in the fantasy football league. The guys basically a tool and everyone should just outsnipe him on everything he trys to buy.
Well, it's good to see one of the old gang back in action. The day just seems a little sunnier ... doesn't it? (we really need a vomit smiley around here)
Good to have you back Jim
Mike
Thanks for the kind words. But you realize to catch MOSH in the Olympics I have to go for 3rd place in the 64 Philadelphia derby and guess who is in third.
I will also be submitting 65-67 Philadelphia in my desperate attempt to catch MOSH so if you feel sorry for me after seeing my initial grades I will gladly take your 8s I don't have as you upgrade to 9s.
Seriously, I looked at you collection and it is very impressive.
Mike,
No wonder I can't remember if you go by Couldabeena or Shouldabeena!!! Look at Mike's sets on the registry--half are shouldabeena and half couldabeena?!?! And what is your collecting strategy Mike--you collect a lot of stuff but you are a little bit away from completion on most.
Dav
<< <i>And what is your collecting strategy Mike >>
Mikey ain't got no strategy.
Mikey don't need no strategy.
Mikey don't even know what a stinking strategy is.
Unless making one scattershot purchase after another at random can be considered a strategy ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
That's okay Jim. The award certificates are made from paper
but the cards are made from cardboard!
To me collecting comes first, the awards are just a nice touch.
I also would be happy to take any of your extra PSA 8' or 9's. Heck, I'll even take 7's to fill a slot till an 8 or 9 comes along.
Actually, I think Wolf nailed it .... I have no goal, and I tend to use buckshot as my "method of madness" in buying. I'm truely all over the place in my collection: Low grade/ high grade, vintage/newer, raw/graded, wax, autographs/photos/programs/matchbooks, old helmets/cleats/balls, etc. My only saving grace is that I only collect football items (and a couple of non-sports sets). If I was also a baseball fan I'd have to file for bankruptcy.
Art was over here on Wednesday when my mailman showed up with quite a few packages. I could tell he was completely amused (and somewhat baffled) as he watched me open the strange assortment of packages. Things like raw 1948-52 Exhibits, a graded 1935 Chicle, autographs of Hank Stram and Pete Retzlaff scribbled out on old scapbook pages, some minty 1974 sugar daddys, a few dinked up 1950 Bowmans, some graded 51 Topps magics, a boxed set of 1962 Ripley's Believe it or Not cards, an overlay printers proof of Jeff Bostic's 1983 Topps card, and finally a couple of old rusty NFL coke caps.
Art likes to razz me about the strange stuff I collect, but I've caught him (several times) flipp'n through my Crane Disc pile and some old dog-eared oddball sets.
I think back to a year or so ago, when I was constantly trying to stay focused on one or two high grade sets ... but I'm certain I enjoy collecting much more now that I've given up trying to stay focused, and just wonder aimlessly through auctions and websites. I've had more fun hunting down these last few raw EX/MT 1950 Bowmans I need for my second set, than I had building my first 1950 Bowman set in straight PSA 8's.
However, with Lillo now back in the fold ... I may have to blast past him again on a vintage PSA 8 set, just to get my weekly quota of smacktalk in.
Mike
I was only talking about the Olympics that Mike sponsors--not PSA award certificates.
Mike,
I figured you had 100-set type aspirations whch is why I am getting a few more sets in the mix.
By the way Mike I also agree that you should lump pre-1950 sets in with the 50s.
Dav
<< <i>some of the pops are pretty low--I think one is a pop zero in 8. >>
... only until I submit this minty looking raw 9 I'm sitting on!
- ShouldaCouldabeenaLillo
Since it sounds unanimous, I'll add the pre-50's sets in with the 50's sets sometime. It might be a couple of weeks, though.
I think I also have to look again at the 60's table and establish some minimum criteria for what's included. I think Wolfbear suggested 75% completion as one place to draw a line, and that sounds like a good start. Besides getting diluted, the table's getting hard to maintain.

Time to plot the 2006 strategy.
How about a 50s and 60s Olympics beginning of the year update when you get the time Mike?
Happy new year to my fellow football collectors.

I really like my epson 4490. It's just a scanner, easy to use, and resolution up to 4800. It cost about 200 bucks at bestbuy, I've had it 3 months and would buy it again.
This is at 1200 resolution. davis
This is at 4800 resolution. hutson
I normally use 400-600 resolution for ebay and they're very clear. Takes 30-45 seconds to do a full magazine cover, 20-30 to do a card.
Nothing to do but to fight back against the enemy....and beg for help from other set registry participants.
Dav
Was it updated? Art should have one for the 52 Bowman smalls, and I think I'm in 3rd place on the 51 Topps Magic?
Also, didn't everyone say they wanted the '54 Quaker Sports set in there too?
Lastly, does anyone know why PSA stopped grading the '48-52 (W468) Exhibits set? They graded a few of them and then stopped. I'm pretty sure they still grade the Baseball ones and the Sports Champions set? I think we should all send in requests to get them to start grading them again. IMO, it's got some of the best football action poses from any of the early sets.
Mike
PS - Hey Fuzz .... have you requested any of the matchbook covers or coke cap sets yet?

Mike T2,
You and Art are evidently delinquent in your Olympic dues. You still have my paypal address, don't you?
I'm out of town this week, so I'll see if I can fix it this weekend.

I have forwarded a corrected copy to Mike.
Apologies to everyone involved.

As always thanks to MIKE FOR HIS EFFORTS FOR ALL OUR FUN WITH THE WHOLE OLYMPICS also thanks to Fuzz for his update work on them as well
Yea, I bet Lillo would pay you well to delete a few of MOSH's sets!
By the way ... did you ever request any of the Coke cap or Matchbook sets to be registered? I'm pretty sure I remember you saying you were woking on some of them. I'm going to bug them again about the 1948-52 Exhibit set, hopefully I can wear them down eventually.
Mike T2
PS - Mike T1 - I sent my annual Olympic dues to Art, and he should be sending you a check shortly
<< <i> ... did you ever request any ... Matchbook sets to be registered? >>
Matches? PSA grades em? What if you need a smoke? Ya gotta bust the freakin slab open?
My grandma used to have a really cool doily collection.
Someone spilt some coffee on one and the stain bears an uncanny resemblance to Johnny Unitas.
Any interest in a PSA NFL HOF player doily stain look-alike registry set?
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
<< <i>he said something about getting a box of pennies from you >>
That's funny ... I'd forgotten about that! Hey Wolf, did you ever take a picture of that plastic box of pennies I sent you?
Also, on the new sets being registered, I've been requesting a HOF set registry for home grown vegetables that look like HOF players. I found an old squash in the back of my fridge last month that had grown some fuzz ... it looks just like Joe Namath wearing his old fur coat. There's also a potato on eBay that has a crooked root growing out of it's side. It looks just like Sammy Baugh from the Leaf set. I've got a snipe placed on it .... so wish me luck!
Mike
PS - Hey MikeT1, Isn't about time for an Odd Ball Olympic registry?

Seven sets have no one in third place and several sets have no second.
My new hero "worst possible" has two cards listed. Total. One 58 CFL in PSA 1 and one 59 CFL in PSA 1. They have stretched their budget into two second places.
That friends is playing the game.
Think of how much Dav spends to staying ahead of this person.
