1807 Capped Bust Half.... Used, Yet Not Abused!

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
This is the small stars variety, and I believe it's o-113a. I kinda like this variety as the stars are a bit smaller and sit farther away
from the rim then the other models. Whenever I can find an 1807 (first year of the series) looking like this I try and jump on them, as I did this one.
Thought the Bust folks might appreciate a coin such as this. And for the folks that might be disappointed and think it ain't got
a "crusty" look to it.... I've provided my scan in the second image.image I just really enjoy that charcoal toning around the periph. The second image
that I scanned, basically is how it looks head on. Lemme know what ya think. These are very tough to find like this, I think so anyway.

    Very cool coin! image
It looks like there is a finger print remnant in front of her mouth, making it look like a few sound waves are coming from her mouth...... image

  • Hey stman,

How do you get such great images from a scanner?

It almost looks like your taking shots from a digital SLR?

Another one of your great looking bust halves stman. You just have to love a coin that shows true colors like this piece. That is a great coin in any collection stman. Thanks for the post and I would love to see you keep those busts coming.

As I mentioned, the SECOND image is my scan. The first image is from someone that imaged it for me.

As far as the alleged print? Trust me, I seen what appears to possibly be one. I was nervous before I got it, I studied it, I examined it,
I got a stiff neck looking at the thingimage I can't figure it to be one. That's my take anyway.

    Very nice.image

It took me 15 years to find my set piece Small Star, about as nice as yours. The prices have gone out of sight.

I don't see how these coins find you so often, but that's a nice circulated piece.
    great find...................
  • If it is a finger print, it's probably over 100 years old. I think that kind of a print is very cool. I have a finger print on the bust quarter in my type set. I was disappointed when I first discovered it, but when I realized how old the print probably was, it changed my opinion. Now I love it.

Well, actually they don't. Some coins I may post I might have had for a while. Also, I could drive home my point I've
been trying to make to you but the second statement in my Sig line sums it up nicely IMO. Here I'll quote it for you againimage
While some of y'all are doing this, I'm looking for coins I like.

Another nice coin Stman. Some of the coins from this die marriage are on oversized planchets - larger than 32.5mm.
