Question about Pete Rose signed baseball

Is this a real Pete Rose autograph or are is it "printed" on? Seems strange that MLB would license such a thing, especially under Selig's tenure.

  • Isn't it possible to buy an offical ML ball? Not sure but I would think you probably could. It doesn;t necessarily mean it's licensed by MLB.

Well, after an initial look, the sig looked real to me. So I compared it to a known authentic auto I have on a batting helmet and the auto matches pretty darn close. The way "Rose" is signed is usually the more difficult part of the auto to fake. From looking at it, the auto looks legit to me. I had a bat and a ball that he signed that I've since given to a good friend, and huge Rose fan and my bat was signed "Hit King" and "1963 ROY" and I remember the "R" in ROY looked weird, and IIRC, it looked like that one. I think the auto is probably real, however that hologram is not an MLB authentication hologram, it's a hologram off an MLB licensed product...could be a hat, jersey or a window flag...you can tell on the top left corner of the hologram it was pried/peeled off something. Besides, the MLB authentication has letter codes and "DB" is not a valid letter code for their authentication program and the hologram is not like either of the two holograms they use.

I think the seller might just be trying to add some credibility to the ball by including that...if it is a fake, I'll say it's a very good one.

Keep in mind, signed, authenticated Rose balls can be had for under $70 most of the time. I don't know where this one falls, but it might be worth noting.

    Hope that helps.
