Friday Picture: Do We Like My No-Motto Seated Dollar?

After owning her ~24 years, I finally took a picture of this one. What do we think? Lightly, lightly cleaned a long time ago, is my guess, but lots of luster left & nicely retoned. I think, not that I'm likely to send her in, she'd come back as a 53 or a 55. The hairlines aren't as obvious in person as in the pic. Anyway, while my collection saw huge attrition late last summer, it makes me happy that some of the tougher holes in my type set are still filled. Also, it makes me happy that tomorrow is opening day of deer season, and I get to go hunt the land the rest of the collection helped to buy. imageimageimage

Happy weekend, everybody.

Not bad. There are almost NO seated dollars which weren't messed with, so it's hard to take a light cleaning too harshly on this one. It's at least as nice as most of the AU Seated dollars I've seen...because at least 90% of them have been cleaned. The lack of a harsh cleaning and lack of many big marks on the coin give it decent eye appeal despite the messin' with.

RCNH had a totally original 1846 (PCGS AU-58) Seated dollar a couple months ago, and I loved it. I just didn't have a grand to blow at the time. These are not easy to find.
  • nice look to it. i've been hunting ebay for a no motto for a few weeks.
the au, original looking ones are bringing in good money while the stripped
ones but shiny aren't doing quite as well. I do like the looks of yours though. i'm looking
maybe down one grade from there.
