Did any of you fall victim to rafaelcoins on eBay?

I seem to remember something about this seller, but I can't find the thread. eBay finally NARU'd him, but not after he ripped bidders off to the tune of many thousands of dollars.

  • I've been in contact with a detective in Ridgeland, MS for over a month about Rafael Rios. He told me a few weeks ago that he spoke with eBay and they were shutting down his account - and it stayed open for another 10 days after that.

The local police gave up and now I'm trying to get the Postal Inspector to arrest him on Federal charges. They don't seem too concerned that he's been evicted from his apartment. To me it made more sense to take him into custody when they knew where he was, but that's just me I guess.

At this point I'm hoping he can make court ordered restitution after he goes to jail, but I'm not holding my breath that either will happen.

  • Almost bid, he had some nicely toned morgans, but he came out of nowhere with the kind of inventory that hasn't been on ebay for a while. Still curious if they were/are his.

I bought an 1845 V5 (1845/1845) half dime from him on eBay several months back. His pictures were of a beautifully toned, original AU coin, but when I received it, it was an XF AT coin. I have no doubt it was the same coin, but the images had been doctored, perhaps in Photoshop. I contacted him about returning the coin for a refund, and he agreed ........ but asked me to wait about one month before returning it! He claimed he would contact me in about one month for the return. Strange request. He also claimed that he was having trouble with light sources for his photography, and could see why I might not be happy with the coin. I never did return the coin, but simply chalked it up to 'lesson learned'. I saw many of his coins later on eBay, and simply steered around them. I have been very interested to read this thread, and to learn that he is in trouble for his adventures on eBay. Who would have thought ........ he is a lawyer, afterall!

Fell victim for $295. I have info on what to do if anyone else fell victim:

I spoke with Detective Phillips from the Ridgeland Police Department a couple of days ago. The detective told me he was handing everything over to the US Postal Inspection Services Department. I was told to call 601-351-7525 and get a form for check fraud. On the voicemail it gave me a website where I could file an online claim. The website was:
(http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/fraud/MailFraudComplaint.htm). Once you have filed out this form you can contact the Inspector whose name is Michael Carroll. His direct phone number is 601-351-7154. I am sending this message to everyone of Rafael Rios? victims via all of the negative feedback that was left. If we all take a couple of minutes and fill out their form, which is very simple, Rafael will be arrested and justice will prevail. If you would like to talk to me, you can email me at any time at Nocerino18@aol.com.

This is Rafael's phone number if anyone wants to try (601) 291-5517
