Took a trip to my local dealer yesterday...

I went there yesterday with $5 to buy some 2x2's and I came home witha coin.
I was there for about an hour looking at some of his stuff. Nothing special there, but I did find a few nice Barber halfs in old whitman folders on the shelf. They were just sitting there, tons of old folders with barber halfs, dimes, and quarters. I had a lot of fun looking through them and I found some that I liked. I am going to go back and buy them for my set. There was a guy in there also who had a folder with some Washingtons in it that he wanted to sell. I overheard him and the dealer talking and he had an AU 1932 quarter that had some toning on it. The dealer said he would buy it for AU money and he did. Then the dealer took the coin to the back and dipped it in some ez-est and brought it back and showed the guy who he had bought it from. The dealer said, "Look, now its BU!" The guy asked for some of the ez-est to try on the rest of his coins and the dealer sold it to him for $5.
Isn't EZ-Est bad for coins?
Now for the good part. I found an UNC Merc dime in his case. It looks to be about 63ish. It was only $4 so I bought it. What do you think?

I think I would have to BE there to assess what he said. There is often a lot of joshing and BS in coin shops. And I can hear myself saying that very phrase to certain customers who would know that I was kidding. It's one of the drawbacks to eavesdropping. You just never know what or who is meaning what.
Edited to add a plausible scenario: The fleamarket regular has just bought a coin. He brings it in and has ALREADY graded it AU. The dealer dips it, says "THERE, now it's BU" and the fleamarket guy buys a bottle to make his "inventory" sellable to the people who buy fleamarket coins.
There ARE those folks. They will NOT buy a real decent coin at a real shop. They like to THINK they're getting deals. I had a regular who owned an auction house and bought slider Morgans. He was amazed how he could run them up to 20 bucks to auction buyers.
Do you guys really think the dime is dipped? I didnt think so. It looked alright to me. It actually has a lot of luster in person. My brother "borrowed" my other light so I cant really capture luster right now. I will try to get better pics up soon.

Good. And for $4, its pretty hard to go wrong.

Only if you don't know what you're doing!
