1794 half cent:opinion & advice

I've had this half cent for a long time. It's a "C1" , the variety with a recut date. My question relates to the heavy "chatter" on both sides of the coin. How would the experts here grade this coin? Would it have a chance of getting through NGC or PCGS? Should I send it directly to ANACS?

  • I think it would AU53 at PCGS.

It's got great detail and shouldn't have a problem getting an AU at PCGS

A later coin might be of some concern in terms of being slabbed, but the very early federal coinage, such as this one, is given much more slack. It would slab without question, I think.

If the images are true to life, I would at least have a suspicion regarding the originality of the color - it is a bit too reddish for the norm for that type.

The odds of PCGS downgrading or bodybagging the coin based on color are zero, IMO.

Thanks for the advice. The color in person is not pink or reddish at all, and the picture on my monitor doesn't show any reddishness.
