    That looks like a scratch on the holder to me?!?...Mike

    If so Mike, it's sure coincidental that it's in the same spot as the characterstic die crack. I'm going to look at the coin in Baltimore.

    Barry, you need to do your homework here. That's a scratch on the holder. Odd place for it but a scratch indeed. The die crack through the CC on 72-CC through 74-CC dimes is lower than the scratch on this 71-CC dime.

    How did this "gem" get into an NGC holder and grade EF45 anyways?

    Yeah, I was gonna say it looked like a scratch on the holder, too, though it seems to be quite a coincidence that it's so close in size and location to the die break through the mint mark on the 1872-74 CC dimes (and possibly on some '71-CCs as well)...

    Obviously a holder scratch. Still worth looking at in person to see if there is anything else around the MM tho.
