My New 1794 Half Cent... Just back from ANACS.

Ok, so it's got that hole...
I still love the detail and overall appeal of the coin. These usually come corroded and/or damaged/worn to a point the desirability is lost. ANACS agreed with my overall grade (FN12) although I thought it had an ever so slight shot at VF20 details.

Nice coin, but I would have had the hole filled first, and then I would have submitted it to ANACS.

The color seems better in the auction. Your pictures make it seem that it was harshly cleaned and is a bright, copper color. It is a warm copper like the auction picture, or are your pictures more accurate?

Holey Moley! 400.00 for a holed coin?

what would it be worth without the hole?

The color is closer to my photos although I lightened the copper a bit as it is difficult to shoot through the plastic (unlike raw as in the auction).
Goose- I'm not sure what they list at problem free, I just know in searching over the last few months I've had a problem finding one in the price range that had detail that is appealing.

  • Why did you have it slabbed ??? Coins like that need to "Be Free" so you can hold them and feel the history !!!!

One of my greatest numismatic memories was holding my Chain Cent when it was raw....... feeling the weight, imagining the minting room where it was made, wondering where it had been for the last 200+ years........ I still own the coin......... It's entombed now........ and everytime I look at it, I don't imagine anything........ I just remember when I held it !!!!!!! image

I would have also had the hole filled, but every collector has their preference.

Cool coin either way and nice details.
