with all the flap lately about PSA...

After some of the post's i read this week about PSA and lawsuits flying about, i found a comment from a thread from March of 2004 here. It seems to be bearing it's friuts..Read on...

"No, Wolfy I don't think it's whining. I think it's people just trying to demand that PSA work better to respond to customers problems. I don't care how big a company they are or how many cards they grade because it doesn't matter when you ignore your customers. Any company that continues to treat the customers in this way will pay for it in the end. Those concerns need to be addressed NOW, not down the road. If you didn't have such an infatuation with Joe and took your head from out of his rear you might be able to comprehend what I am talking about. Say what you want, think how you want, but PSA is not as comfortable in the marketplace as they once were. You have many grading choices now and GAI is gaining popularity in the marketplace by the day. People have legitimate concerns with what is happening at PSA and Collectors Universe. It's a trickle down effect when you have complaints like they have had in the last couple of months from many of their customers. I, as well as many others which probably includes you, have a vested interest in the stability of PSA. What would happen to the value of the cards in PSA slabs if their company is to continue to endure the problems that they are currently having? I certainly don't want to see the value of my PSA slabbed cards fall, but unless PSA gets their act together I don't see them doing anything but that. I for one think that their grading has become so eratic that I will not purchase a high $ PSA slabbed card without seeing it in person or at least seeing a good clear scan of the card to really see the cards condition. It's people like you that have the PSA is holier than thou attitude that think they could never fall from grace. It's happened to companies before, so why could it not happen to PSA?"

Well two things out of this comment was that GAI has kind of come and gone, but yet 20 months later you could type this same paragraph over again and just put today's date.

Yeah i have walked past dealer tables. Unless it is 8.5 or higher and it is a Star card, GAI doesn't even meet PSA GRADE VALUE for any other card. I am the reason GAI doesn't refund money back anymore. If you recall when they first started out, they promised your cards would meet or beat PSA prices. I sent in over 200 1955 Bowman basabell cards that came back 7.5 to 8.5 . My partner that went in on this with me, we both took a bath on ebay. We listed all of them on ebay the 1st time with only 13% of them selling first time ( mostly semi- star cards), when we relisted them again ( the remaining 87%). This time only 5% of the commons sold. Finally a 3rd time on ebay sold another 6%. After buying, grading, ebay fees, we took a bath on the whole deal. When we e-mailed GAI they tried to back out of giving us money back in exchange for 200 free grades. I stated to them what their promise was and that we wanted our cash back for the grading. After 3 months of getting d**ked around they finally coughed up a check. We also sent them all of the listings from ebay including final sales prices. This is why you no longer see this promise on their website. As it was removed shortly after this fiasco about 2 years ago.
I haven't sent anything to them since. Although i have bought a few sealed packs.

Has anyone used GAI for autograph authentication? How are their turnaround times? I have a Joe DiMaggio and 2 Willie Mays 3x5 I need authenticated for resale purposes. I went to their website and it looks like it is $20 per auto, I didn't see a premium for guys like DiMaggio.

I made a lot of noise about the PSA/DNA lawsuit. I might as well do something about it and put my money where my mouth is. There will never be an alternative to PSA/DNA until more people start trying other services.
