Question about taking pictures of silver

I have these little silver bars I am trying to photo. My problem is that on side is so shiny that I can see the camera in the coin. Does not make a very pretty picture. How can I fix this?

Thanks,

Linda

  • Put the lights lower than the camera. If that doesn't help, angle the coin to where the angle at which the light hits the coin bounces just far enough away from the lense of the camera. In other words, just put some post-it notes under a side of the coin to tilt it. image

Edit to say that you will need to increase your F-stop to adjust for the wider range of focus on the tilted coin to make sure the entire coin is in focus. Might need more lights for a steeper angle though.

Use very diffused light such as diffused/ambient sunlight in a room.

Or a piece of paper between the light and the silver bar. This will have the same effect -- diffusing the light.
