Ebay idiots. Some people are helpless, hopeless and clueless

So I am trying to get 10 of the Fleer Diecuts of Lumsden.

This arrived today:

Needless to say, I am upset. I will let my email to the seller explain my feelings. (I had to send 2 emails through ebay's contact seller):

The Lumsden arrived today, and I must say I am severely disappointed and extremely angry.

You shipped the card in a white envelope? Taped between two pieces of cardboard? without so much protection as a penny sleeve?

You might as well have stuck a stamp on the card itself and mailed it to me that way!

Professional shippers will put the card in a penny sleeve, into a top loader, and send it in a bubble mailer. This will cost you a total of 49 cents to mail. You can even recycle your old bubble mailers (as I do) to cut down on costs. Send it to me in a scratched, useless toploader if you like, I don't care. You can even add delivery confirmation for paypal protection and STILL only pay $1.04! You KEEP the other $1.46, like the rest of the cheapskates on ebay.

But to send it as you did BEGS for the card top arrive damaged.

(Continued)

As you can clearly see in the scan provided in the previous email, the card was damaged, and is valueless. You have destroyed a card limited to 59 copies. Very nice. This card now has a value only to the Lumsden family.

I would urge you to ship your cards as a professional would.

I demand a full refund. If you would like the card back, I will be happy to return it. At your expense. The shipping will be the exact amount. $1.04
As a seller, I would dearly love to have the chance to show you how a TRUE professional ships sports cards to prevent damage.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

As Rich G from the beckett boards would say:
IDIOT!

Is she does not elect to have the card returned, it will be mailed to Lumsden himself. It will have more value to him, even damaged, than it ever will to me.

I am furious that we can do nothing to protect ourselves from ebay sellers like this. If a refund is given, I will leave a neutral. Otherwise, I leave the negative, retaliatory negative be damned.

you just lost sympathy from me.. does the above statement mean that anybody that charges more than exact shipping is a cheapskate?

    Good for you.
  • Thanks for posting the scans, Steve. The crease is on both sides, but the one side is hard to see.

I wrote my email to the seller in anger, and I intended to do so. My price paid was a mere $3.50 shipped, so i can tolerate a lack of refund. I DID, however, want her to feel the FULL HEAT of my anger, in the hopes she would reform.

A negative does not scare me, as only an idiot would think I am in the wrong here.

  • I agree that only an idiot would think you're wrong. Poor shipping is inexcusable.

However, I think any rational person would think you're overreacting. A lot.

Next time I'd suggest before flaming these boards and the seller with your "FULL HEAT of anger", you first politely tell the seller you're unsatisfied and ask for a refund. If you don't get it, you leave a negative feedback and move on.

DG took the words right out of my mouth. It would seem to me you are way too upset. Starting polite in these situations might get you a better resolution. Plus most anytime you say "any idiot..." you might offend someone. I find it strange too but even in the most "obvious" situations not everybody agrees with me. Oh ya, plus there are a lot of us "cheapskates" who charge $2 and $3 for postage on Ebay. Save the heat for bigger battle in my opinion.
  • p.s. Daeyel, don't get me wrong. I certainly lash out insults and sarcastic flames on these boards with (too much) regularity. But I think if we all expect (and prefer) ebay to be a professional and responsible marketplace, then we all have a responsibility to act accordingly and professionally in settling disputes, especially in situations like this.

Daeyel - I agree with DG and Larry - there's enough rotten energy in this world without purposely setting out to add more. Without first politely and professionally confronting someone we feel has wronged us, venting/bombing under any circumstances is not acceptable behaviour. Road rage, email rage, it's all the same.

Your feelings are justified; your actions are not, IMHO.

  • Politeness only goes so far, and many don't learn.
Sometimes people dont learn until someone actually tells them off. This seller has a feedback rating of 427, and has been on ebay since 1998.

After 8 years, they STILL don't get it.

I think they needed to be yelled at. So I did.
