Do many of you go to banks to get coins?

They are closed tomorrow. I asked the teller if they had any half dollars? One said he had 7 dollars worth. I took them. One was a 1998 S. I said thannnks.

YES! Especially when I'm on the East coast. I'm a lincoln cent collector always get a box of cents when I'm out east as more errors are minted at the Philadephia mint. At home I pick up rolls of new State Quaters when my bank gets them in. Welcome to the Boards.

At my last job, I used to make a deposit every day. Every single day I would ask if they had rolls of halves. Normally they didn't. Some times they would have a couple of rolls from people who had been to Atlantic City, or somewhere where they have half dollar slots. (terrible looking coins) One day they had about seven or eight rolls. I bought one and it was almost all '64s. I went back with more money and got the rest. I got two common date Franklins in AU, a bunch of silver clads, and a bunch of '64s.

Because I work in a bank I would have to say yes I do get lots of coins from the bank.

I have a good relationship with the vault teller and probably get about $15 to $20 worth of silver and clad at least monthly.

I also pick up a few rolls of the new quarters when they come out as well as the new nickels.

Man... if the tellers were nice enough around here, I'd be swimming in silver... Everytime I go and ask for halves, they count them out and if they run across a silver, they say.. oh I better get you a nicer one, this one looks dirty
I always say no that ones fine, but still put it away...
EDITED TO ADD: Oh sorry didnt answer original post.. yes I get some coins from the banks, although I didnt get a chance to go today.. I'll have to wait till Saturday

I've got a local liquor store where I'm friends with the owner, he saves his 90% and 40% for me. Unfortunately I goota pay him 4X face right now

well the best i get is a 1985 S in a box of halves. i did score another 9 to 12$ face value in silver halves 90/40s

You mean you guys actually go to a bank and take silver coins at FACE.....gee sounds like you are really taking advantage of someone who doesnt know much about coins.......hmmmm if a dealer did that you would call him a crook.....

I don't go to the bank looking for silver but I got three 1964 quarters in change from McDonald's last week. That's the first time I've gottem silver back in change since my mercury dime jackpot hit in St Louis back in 2000. At a gas station I got change back in all dimes and when he was counting the dimes to give back to me I recognized that sound. He said they do look old and I paid him at face value for all he had. I ended up getting 42 more mercury dimes for $4.20.
