    Welcome Mark, from another Mark.

In the meantime, a heavily toned copper piece will be designated either "RB" for red/brown or "BN" for brown, as opposed to "RD" for red.

The term "cleaned" means different things to different people. PCGS does grade some coins which have been (lightly) cleaned. However, depending upon the type and extent of the cleaning, they no-grade many others. "Cleaned" copper often appears more unnatural than other metals, so is often more likely to be rejected due to "cleaning".

By toned I mean greens, purples and the other rainbow of colors but not brown. Thank you for your quick reply Mark! Mark
  • If the toning isn't consistent, such as lots of spots or areas that look out of place it will probably get body bagged. Especially if it's a modern. If it's an older coin and looks natural toned it'll get graded. Such as my Icon coin did. It is a 1909 VDB no longer have it. It sold in June at the Bullet sale in St Louis at Central States Show. I wish I'd put a higher reserve on it. It graded 65 Brown but IMHO I think it should have been a 66. I have a gorgeous 1925-D with beautiful Blue toning in at the graders right now. I think it will go at least a 63 but no guarentee's that it will even get a grade!image Welcome to the Boards. Mike.image
