Hey gang,
For some time now I have cooled considerably on the business of card collecting. I still buy and sell here and there if a card is one that I have sought (unfinished business so-to-speak). However, my passion these days has turned to vintage photographs and original negatives & slides. Not just baseball, but anything that catches my eye. These days my four kids get the lion's share of the attention. Anyway, I have spent a great deal of time going through old family slide carousels of vacations and events and have resurrected some fantastic memories. The thing about slides is, they actually make the best photos-restorations are easier, etc, and they are often forgotten about until they are plucked and held at arms length against a light. I have pulled hundreds of slides that I am eager to show and I will be auctioning/selling a very limited number of prints of some in the coming months. One such is this gem...
Kingman Bomb
I remember taking the pic and thinking I missed it because a guy stood up before I thought it was taken and I jerked the camera. I remember my Dad asking-- as Kingman circled the bases with his "mincing" little steps-- "Did you get it?" I said I didn't know for sure. When the pictures were developed this is what we wound up with. Just a cool shot I wanted to share...right-click away!
I'm loving this new hobby!
Email me if there are any players you'd have interest in...I deal in mostly regional stars and commons from 1976-1990, but have some superstars and 50's-60's originals I have purchased at garage sales, auction, etc.

Great shot! Is that a young Dale Murphy behind the plate?
Damian

Was it Hat day there by any chance ? Looks like just about everyone in the stands has a blue Cubs hat. Or maybe just everyone there owned a Cub hat lol
Here's another original that you'll not see again...
On the Corner at Night

I'll have to learn more about what you are doing too..I have loads and loads of original slides and pics taken in 1967 on the USS Intrepid Aircraft carrier. There was a USO tour in the Phillipenes, and my father was Joe DiMaggio and Pete Roses body guard/escort for the 3 days that they were there. He had loads of pics taken with Joe and Pete at the controls of the ship..and also on the fligth deck signing autos under the fighter planes!!
There was one pic that was taken in the galley of my father and Joe together...and EVERY time my father could pull out his wallet to show anyone and everyone the pic..he did..lol
In 1994 I attended a card show in Atlantic City and had made a 10X12 copy of the pic...DiMaggio signed it and I had it framed and matted for my father for Father's Day.....it was incredible.
So somewhere in the depths of the attic there are still all the pics and slides with the original flyers promoting the USO tour. I think Tony C. and Tom Thresh were on another ship aside of them. I'll have to look and try to get some scans up...

I don't understand your post. I hope Abe cleared it up. Of course, Bob Horner was the Braves 3rd baseman for some time. You sound surprised by that.
BTW, as I type this, the item has a bid and 6 watchers. I wonder how many people from here are watching it?

This is one of the best threads in a long time!
A personal account with pics! I like Dave K. and think he was a great hitter - watched him play when I was in school in NYC.
This is the best hobby on the planet! There are so many ways to go.
Good luck with your direction and keep us posted!
Thanx for sharing and I can't believe you got the ball in the shot!!!!

Do you have any San Diego Padres?

I don't know how you don't understand his post. I think it was a question and I think Abe did provide the answer. I also think Sting's confusion may lay in that Horner is at 3rd base and I remember him at 1st base as he was at the end of his career. That may show my age a bit but before '84 I don't remeber much of the game as I was too young.
Either way a cool couple of pics and good luck on the new direction.

Sounds like you're not too sure, either. Saying "Bob Horner on the corner for the Braves?" Sounded like a question, but it's hard for me to imagine someone not knowing that--assuming they know who Horner is/was. Now, had he said, "who the heck is Bob Horner", THAT would've been different. My response was sincere and appropriate. It sounds like you're taking issue--I apologize if I am reading into it too much.
Bottom line, just enjoy the pics.

A few Padres. Ozzie, Wiggins, Gwynn, Darrel Thomas, Champion, Winfield, and my personal favorite pic of all my Padres, Randy Jones. I'll post the Randy Jones and a couple of others as time permits. I'll bring the slides home from my office and scan 'em up.

I am sure it was a question Stingray asked as the question mark in his post would imply. Also as I said in my post I remember Horner being a 1st baseman for Atlanta as he was in the time I saw him play. I know who he is/was but I was unaware he spent much of his career at 3rd base for the Braves. After reading Stings post I looked at the pic again and saw the blond locks and realized that was Horner. You didn't realize it was a young Dale Murphy behind the plate until it was pointed out to you so dont presuppose that everyone should know that Horner was at 3rd while you didn't recognize the catcher.
Not particularly taking issue, it may have played a part in my thought process, but Sting is a CURRENT and regular contributor and your response, albeit sincere and in your mind appropriate, kind of carried an air of arrogance to it. As did your reply to me.

Scary Goose
Steve,
Here's a couple. The unusual and, perhaps, nicer images are at my office. I'll be there Saturday and will try to remember to bring 'em home and get them up. Thanks for your interest.

how about Rod Carew?
Loves me some shiny!
I've got awesome Carew's. From Comiskey park in the mid-late 70's in the light blue Twins uniform. I'll get those up when I get to them in the carousels. Those haven't been unearthed yet, but he's one player Dad really dug so he took quite a few and landed some beauties.
