Why are 2001 Topps Chrome football refractors so expensive ?

I was watching eBay auction number 8717808265 and I was wondering why these refractors from 2001 are so expensive ? Even the no names sell for 10 bucks.
Someone please enlighten me.

Thanks
Carlo

  • Black refractors are more scarce than the regular refractors (#'d to only 100). Most of the 2001 football sets are popular because of the rookie crop that year (Vick, Tomlinson, et al.). Taking this into consideration, Rookie Black refractors sell for a premium. I may be wrong, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! image

The 2001 Topps Chrome Football refractors come in 2 styles, Black which are numbered to x/100 and the regular refractors which are number to x/999. All the rookies are refractors no regular rookies in this set. The 2001 set is one of my favorites and the one Master Set I am still working on finishing. I only need 3 more Black RC refractors and 1 other jersey insert card. IMO this is one of the best rookie groups in years.
