Seeing the thread about the 1938 ANACS MS68 made me think of this one . . .

that I have in PR66CAM ANACS holder. This is truly a magnificent Proof Lincoln. Very few 36-42 have nice color. The portrait has a nice light purple color across it, but I can't quite get it in a picture. PCGS won't cross it.image

  • VERY NICE LOOKING COIN. They won't cross it as it isn't a 66 in their eye. Mark it cross at any level and will probably cross at a 64-65 level. I'd give it a 64 as it has a lot of scratches in the fields. Mike.image

Thanks Mike. Here it is from another angle. In the first photo, I was trying to show the fuzz of the cameo on the jacket, and the color. That made everything on the surface of the coin show up. Those aren't really scratches, but more like little breaks due to age. I don't know how to describe them.

  • Much nicer in that Photo I'd think it should cross at least a 65 by that Picture. But the graders have it in hand and can make a better determination. Still a nice looking coin.image

  • I suggest that the reason it won't cross is that PCGS does not agree with the CAM designation. I doubt very, very much, that the numerical grade is the issue because ANACS Proofs almost invariably grade numerically higher at PCGS than at ANACS. Usually anywhere from 1 to 3 points higher.
