Bought a set of UNC War nickels. How'd I do? Need help.

Here are a few pics. I know basically nothing about nickels, so I ask which dates are the most difficult to find fully struck and in high grade. What should I look for?

I believe a few have PVC residue, but several have wonderful rainbow toning. Also a few have prominent die cracks, is that typical?

Those do look pretty nice. Not particularly high grade, but I like the toning on them.

As for the PVC, just do the acetone thing.

excellent toning and all ms 66+ in my opinion yes acetone will remove allthe pvc residue and will not hurt the toning

kjjust let them soak in acetome put then in a covered glass jar covered in acetone overnight and this will take care of all the pvc just rinse them twice in distilled water and you will be fine
  • Nice die break on the dome on the 44 D.

If the color is a result of oil transfered from a PVC flip, acetone might remove it. If the coin's luster was enhanced with something like Blue Ribbon, acetone might make it duller. If it was darkened with something like Deller's Darkener, acetone might even make the coin lighter colored. "Real" toning (caused by a thin film of copper suphide and/or silver sulphide) won't be affected, however.
