Everyone freaks about who did roids....of course Palmeiro did them, along with Mac, Canseco, et all
It was the thing to do in the 80s and 90s...and we all know Bonds is probably the worst abuser.
I remember a story about Dykstra in the early 90s...he went to the Phillies spring training...and who ever the hitting instructor was said that he looked like a miniature Hulk and told him to get off the roids. From how I remember the story goes, Dykstra backed off from them. It was known guys did steroids back then, it just wasnt such a huge issue.

Dykstra is old news. I think everyone just about suspected him. Joyner is a surprise though.

i was pulling your leg on lenny!
  • I wonder "who else" juiced in that time period.

I also wonder what "tests" or evidence that MLB has ignored since the early 90's.

No exaggeration but I wouldnt be surprised if at least 75% of all the players juiced during that time. The money was getting bigger and bigger so it was a natural occurance of events that players would use steroids hoping to improve their numbers for that big payday.

Lenny's carwash joints are the best.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
  • Just wanted to wish Lenny a Happy 49th Birthday.
  • For years, I kept saying to people to keep an eye out for this guy's name appearing on a list. For Christ's sake, he was a professional bodybuilder before becoming a MLB player. Don't know if he was mentioned. Nor do I care if they did steroids, but surprised Kapler's name is not mentioned more often

Bummer about Joyner, total surprise to me. He was my favorite Angel back in the late 80s early 90s. I was a kid back then and followed him through a few seasons. Actually have a good amount of his cards and autos still just to take me back to those times.

I not one to mention names however there were a few guys besides the ones mentioned that were not power hitters at the early part of thier career then became big homerun hitters.

It's worth noting that a lot of guys who juiced were doing so to elevate themselves beyond being a AAA player.

For some, roids made them just good enough for the 25 man roster. For others, it made them stars.

Then there were the greedy guys like Bonds and Clemens who were naturally stars, but wanted to make the leap into godhood.

    << <i>disappointed to hear about joyner. >>

I remember reading about Joyner. He actually came clean about it a few years before the Mitchell Report came out in an interview with ESPN Magazine. He said that he tried them when he was with the Padres due to his career being in decline and the fact that he wanted to keep playing. As he tells it, he took 3 pills that he got from Ken Caminitti, then felt so ashamed of himself that he flushed the rest down the toilet.

Joyner's in the Mitchell report, but probably because he confessed to ESPN first.
