I don't know if I should feel sorry for the guy who currently owns this "shirt" or all the relics that were trashed making this.

Feel sad for any person that bids on that thing. People are STRANGE!

That is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.

  • << <i> don't know if I should feel sorry for the guy who currently owns this "shirt" or all the relics that were trashed making this. >>

Feel sorry for the guy who owns this shirt, his family and friends, the companies that cut these jersey pieces out and meant for them to be on a card, for all collectors who would rather have the actual entire jersey of a player rather than a 1 inch by 1 inch piece attached to a piece of cardboard, for the modern card market that has spawned this kind of stupidity and a society that places so much value on profit, regardless how inane, dumb or malicious the method to attain said profit is.

    end soap box rant
  • Wow!!! Ted Williams, Honus Wagner, Mel Ott, Shawn Green, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Klesko, Kevin Brown, Bret Boone, Tim Redding....
Where will the list of All Time Greats end??? When you consider most of the cards could be had for a quarter, this was definately done with a hefty profit margin in mind. Oh yeah, and I'm sure the Wagner, Ott and Williams jerseys made it into the shirt since he has the scans.....

This has got to be a gag. No one can possibly be that stupid.

I think this is a terrible point being made. I think it is a crying shame that they cut up these jersey's to begin with. I feel sorry for the collectors who DO want a 1X1in piece in a card. I think that has the value placed on profit regardless of how inane, dumb or malicious the method to attain profit is. It's kind of like, "Hey I can't afford a trip to Jamaica but I can get a cup of sand from there. Yaaaaayyyyyyy!"

Don't get me wrong, I think this guy is a moron but if these companies didn't brutalize these jerseys in the first place he would never have had the opportunity to do this.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks it's a pretty neat idea. Not that I'd ever buy it or make one... but if I went to someone's house and he had made one like it for himself, I'd dig it.

Joe- You forgot the punch line to your post!? You know, something like "ha, ha, just kidding."
  • You know whats odd? The back of the 'jersey' with all the stickers on it looks more eye appealing than the front. The front looks like a bunch of multi-colored Chicklets that a five year old pieced together in the shape of a jersey.

You know, I've often wondered about those game used cards, and the chances of people pulling out the game used piece and replacing it with some generic wood or jersey cloth, and keeping the original piece. Then I figured, what the heck would they do with a little piece of cloth or wood? I geuss this answers that.image

Maybe somebody can construct a bat from game used bat pieces, glue them together, and then sand it into a real bat! THen you can say that this piece of wood hit over a couple of thousand home runs!
  • From the auction.

WELL - ALMOST TWO DAYS INTO THE AUCTION AND NOT A SINGLE QUESTION ABOUT THIS ITEM - I THOUGHT I WOULD GET A BETTER RESPONSE - WOW!

Whoever can get the seller to post the most funny question (one that he thinks is real) on the auction will be my hero.

What would REALLY be neat is if somehow he sewed them together into an actual jersey instead of a flat piece. Then you could wear it with these:

Just got a response to my question.....

Q: I am a big Yankees fan. Is it possible to remove all the Red Sox jerseys (like Ortiz and Ramirez) and add additional jerseys of Yankees? I don't think I would be able to do it myself.
    Nov-08-05
A: IF YOU ARE SERIOUS - THEN SORRY, BUT THE PIECES ARE SUPERGLUED TOGETHER - YOU CAN ACTUALLY TAKE THE JERSEY OUT OF THE GLASS IN ONE PIECE, BUT I WOULDNT RECCOMEND IT. IF YOU WERE JOKING, THEN GOOD ONE! I FELT THE SAME WAY ABOUT PUTTING THE YANKEES PIECES IN - BEING A METS FAN! THANKS AND GOOD LUCK IF YOU INTEND TO BID!

  • I don't know, but the concept of this item is starting to grow on me. If it were stitched together, and there were more HOfers...I don't know now. $200 as constituted now? If it didn't look like a bunch of Chicklet candies, then who knows?

I'll bet you guys would be bidding it on it, If it had a sticker from Upper Deck saying it was authentic!! What was trashed was the jersey that was shredded into all these frikkin patches!!! Give it up to to this guy for being one step ahead of Upper Deck,Topps......... I can already hear the wheels turning.

Totally heady game-used patchwork. Forget eBay. This guy needs to stitch these together and take 'em to Bonnaroo or something.

  • I am quite interested in this item, but have a question. Do you take orders? I would love to have a pants version made to display alongside the jersey one in my office. Two empty walls means the need for two great display pieces. A swatch of Derek Jeter jersey smack dab on the crotch would be super. Mike Piazza jerseys on the knees.

lol piazza on the knees...get it

I agree Carew, but I am guessing that we are alone here. I think its a shame that they cut these jerseys up in the first place.

I don't have a problem with the game used jersey concept.

I know that the vintage jerseys of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Josh Gibson etc. have tremendous historical value and are museum peices. The only problem is that they aren't museum pieces, they have been in private collections and aren't made available until someone decides to sell them. They aren't really museum pieces unless they are actually in a museum and I can go see them. I guess the best solution would be for people to donate this stuff to the Hall of Fame, but not many people are making these type of gifts.

Until someone creates a time share consortium where I can own 1/52 of a Babe Ruth jersey and have it in my place for one week a year, this is the closest I will come to a Ruth jersey. I think the cards that have been created have been for the most part pretty creative.

  • AllenAllen Posts: 7,165 ✭✭✭
Yeah but when the GU market crashes and goes the way of the insert they will be worthless and they will have destroyed the jersey for nothing. I would rather them insert a redemption card for the actual jersey. Even though the odds would be high it would be better than destorying history.
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
In the grand scheme of things, this no more stupid than cutting up the jerseys in the first place to make the cards. It reminds me of the first time I bought a one-relic-per-pack product back in 2001 for $30/pack. Two packs, two Kerry Collins jersey cards. I told my friend all I needed to do was buy 50 more packs and I could put together my own Kerry Collins jersey.

I guess this guy took it one step further. I think he'd be making more of a political statement if he bought all the cards of one player and put back together that player's jersey.
