Dontcha hate it when they bid instead of BIN? UPDATE :)

Listed a couple of items yesterday on eBay at what I thought was a very reasonable price. $X for opening bid, $X+10% for the BIN.
Last night a guy bid $X.
Then bid $X again.
Then emailed me this morning to ask (in all caps of course):
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BUY IT NOW BUTTON THAT WAS ON THIS ITEM EARLIER?

UPDATE 11-10-05
He bid $X...again. That's three times.
Maybe the 4th will unstick the BIN option

Actually, this isn't possible. Since he was the only bidder, his second bid shows the same, but it was for a greater amount of $$$. It's a common practice among some bidders in an effort to not get outbid.

Most of the time. But in certain circumstances they add just the right amount of umph to capitalize on an impulse. When stuff is hot, you can either sell now and make use of the buyer's desire for instant gratification, or lose a sale to the other guy who had the BIN.

What probably happened was that he bid $X, then had a change of heart and decided to go ahead and BIN it. So he went back to the auction but the BIN was gone. So he went ahead and bid the BIN amount assuming that it would go ahead and sell it to him at the BIN amount. When it didn't he e-mailed the seller to find out what happened to the BIN.
<< <i>Same thing happened to me yesterday. I just about always put my list price and my list price + 10% for a BIN. The funny thing is that, even though they almost never click the BIN button, 50% of the time the final price ends up higher than what the BIN price was
I've noticed that too.

Yes, as VamGuy said I'm sure this is what happened. Now we're both stuck sitting for a week while we wait for the auction to end.
