I buy these coins in the choice AU range, as do many others. The pricing guide's lack of distinction between the various grades makes it useless to me.

I'm still kicking myself for NOT jumping on a nice PCGS AU-58 1874 $3 princess I saw last year. Barry Stuppler was selling it on eBay last year and I could have jumped on it for $1,499 and I passed because I didn't feel right about spending that much money at the time it came up for sale.

    Crud.

Yes !!! Can't wait 'till I show the boss (wife). We bought our MS61 early last year for $2500. She was not happy about this and I must admit I was a little nervous too. This makes me feel good to know I made a good decision. Now, as long as they do not start heading south, I will be in a good position.

Well until you can get the money it's all just a price guide. I looked on Ebay about a month ago on $3 coins in the AU range and not many takers when they got over a grand or so.

I assume these are raw Princesses you're talking about? I can't believe a solid, top-tier TPG certified AU example, even AU-50, having trouble cracking a grand unless they have problems.

No NCG and PCGS.....just follow some maybe times have changed but the PCGS price guide nevers meant much some of my coins I've paid half the price guide rate at times. I think I saw a few PCGS AU50ish types that may have hit $1200 but that was the exception and not the rule and a far cry from the cheapest AU coin at $2100.

There has been a strong demand for these on the Left Coast... I have a dealer friend who has blown through 4 in the past 3-4 weeks, AU53-55's at $1600-$1700 PCGS/NGC slabs. All of them for collectors with gold typesets.
