The below pic shows an repunched date on this 1854 Large Cent. Clearly seen below 195... Is this a fairly common variety?

I dunno nothin' about the RPD, but that looks like a helluva nice coin, with all that red!

I think it is a Newcomb 21.If it has a clash mark near the top of the top right of T in cent that would nail it down.
    Hope that helps.

The recutting below the date seems to match N-21. (But the position of the 5 below the curl doesn't seem right.) Since this looks like a high grade coin look for raised vertical lines around Liberty's eye. If they are there it is almost certainly N-21. The only other possibility I see is a very early state of N-12. N-12 is a hole in ear variety and N-21 is a no hole in ear so it should be fairly easy to tell which it is.

Yep N-21 no doubt. The recutting fits, the position of the 5 fits (I was mistaken earlier, was looking at the wrong reference number.), hole in the ear, group of raised lumps on the neck, and a lump on the bust above the 8. The only thing I can't see in the picture are lines by the eye. It's a common variety R-2.
