A day of first finds

Found the first half dollar of my short MD 'career'. 1972 Kennedy. In the hole that I dug the half dollar I also brought up a yellow marble.
Almost didn't dig the half at first cua the signal was strange, and weak. glad I did. Otherwise, all I got today was the blue charm and $1.00 in clad.

I think my first half was a 1972 Kennedy, as well. Maybe a '71. The reverse was painted white, as I recall.

I spent it. Yeah, I was that broke at the time. Wish I'd kept it as a memento of my early detecting days.

Since then I have never found another Kennedy, but I've gotten five silver halves over the years (one Barber, two Walkers, one Franklin, and one Oregon Trail commem).

Halves are NOT a common find for me, as you can imagine. I hope to get back into the Seated Liberty/Capped Bust/Draped Bust/Flowing Hair types with the next one I dig.

    Hey, it could happen. image

(It HAS happened- our pal Steve dug a Draped Bust half in one of the parks here).

My first half was an '85 Kennedy. Since then another Kennedy and a Walker. I think I still have them all.

My last marble find was a yellow Cats eye.

Hey, my marble is yellow also!. How do I know if it's a cat's eye. Looking at it, it's probably actually clear with some yellow 'stuff' in the middle.

    Cool mdless,
My first half was a Kennedy also. Two in the same hole. That was in the first couple months of my MD career and haven't found another since. Hope you have better luckimage
  • Nice find mdless. My first and only half so far was a 1917-D Walker.
    I lust for silver.

  • its weird, how for many of us, the kennedy is the 1st half we all find. i used to find alot of kennedy halves back in the 1980's. i have'nt dug one in about 12 years. i'd say the franklin and or seated is the second rarest half for me to find. i've only dug 2 of each. i got 3 barber halves this year, bringing my total to 6. i've dug at least 12 walkers. they seem fairly common.
