Does sealing a coin in a 2X2 for twenty years increase its value?

What I particularly appreciate is not only his fabulous, well-detailed photos, but his elegant prose in the description:

"if i get a good asking price for the 5 cent coin ill throuh in the other 2 coins in for free. You pay shipping and all other fees that apply"

If he gets a good enough ASKING PRICE? We already know he's asking $1000, how much gooder does he think he'll get? Such a deal!

Not a scam. A scam implies intention to rip someone off. I see here a clueless newbie who would be well advised to get himself a Red Book before listing anymore eBay auctions.

I agree, not a scam - just an uneducated seller. Obviously if the other two coins are as described, they would be worth far and away more than the one the seller is focusing on. If it were a scam I would think the seller would at least focus on the most valuable of the three coins.

So many here are so harsh on all sellers, perhaps it would pay to go back in time and consider what you knew when you first started collecting and ran across your first really old coin. Lighten up a bit.

VG-9? 1909 Lib nickel at $1000. The seller cannot spell or write coherently. Smells like a scam as will as low intelligence.

    Really!
I think there should be another forum for "I hate eBay but I use it and I found this" to unclutter the U.S. coin forum...

I am not convinced that it's lack of education, I call like I see it. Your not going to tell me that he didnt already seek some kind of information about the coin if he didnt know. Information is readily available everywhere, he was literate enough to get an e-bay account and post it for sale thier wasnt he. Bad pic's and private feedback, dont think so folks!! Believe what you want

Man people! Don't you recognize a Van Gogh #9 when you see one!

So............who's sending the kid the educational email?

  • ... What I see is a guy who listed to see if someone would be foolish enough to purchase this coin. Then this post will take on a different tune. Reminds me of the guy who listed a toned Frankie a couple months ago on EBay to show off, for a million, and one of us bought it. I know I laughed the rest of the night and into the next morning.

anyone...? I know a lot of people who aren't into collecting that will come up to me with a 58 wheatie, thinkin' they struck it rich, they always think its worth atleast a hundred bucks and it's not even in great condition... I think he just didn't bother to look up the value, however I could see how he thinks he could con someone into buying it... idk image

    Sent seller the following message:

If you check pcgs.com/prices, you will find that a Liberty nickel of that date is valued at $32.00 in EF. Since yours is G/VG, it is worth about 1/500th of what you listed it for. I would recommend buying a Redbook at your local coin store, or check the library. Good luck, Keith

I don't think it's a scam - I've met lots of people this intelligent on Ebay. I call 'em mouth breathers.

    But never to their faceimage
