Copies/Replicas

Is anyone familiar with the British law requirements regarding copies?

Do they have to be marked copy or not? I have seen some museums selling replicas of George V sixpences and as far as i can remember they were not marked COPY. I can't remember if they had an R on them or the other three letters that are sometimes used (WRC or something).

  • Here's some repros from Britain (made from sterling silver as originals)

Neither have COPY on them (but they do have a private symbol, infront of Charles on the obverse, and the legends are changed, plus the Charles is dated)

I'm not seeing the R for Replica though.

Wouldn't it have been nice to be there as medieval coins fell from the die!

Thanks for all the invective, folks. imageimageimage Those BU medieval coins are truly cool. I wish I had good photos of them instead of scans. It's nice to track the different mintage technologies with coins over the ages.

  • Do you have exact attribution details to these coins and the history behind the reproductions? One of regular contributors has already uploaded a couple of these to our internet database, but it would be good tp have them all with their complete and correct details.
