Jeff - that story had everything: pathos, intrigue, mystery, conflict, tragedy and a happy ending! Congrats.

  • Thanks for showing us your results Jeff. I have a question for you, how did you break open a GAI case? I have a GAI 8.5 Heinsohn card that I'd like to break open and submit to PSA. But I feel I need some guidence so I don't ruin the card. Thanks in advance.

    Ed-
I've cracked them by using diagonal cutters and cliping the corners, then prying the holder open. I've also used a dremel and cut the corners, less flying plastic but I have flashbacks to watching Marathon Man.

BTW, the Kahanamoku you sold me is one of my all time favorites, it definitely found a good home! Thanks!

  • Griffins, Thanks for the guidence. As for the 1933 Sport Kings Duke Kahanamoku I wish I had never let it go.image At least it found a good home.image

  • surprised about the gai crossovers?
  • Hey guys, i for sure still am not great at cracking the cases so no advice here, I am very suprised to get a higher grade from psa than gai. This has happened to me twice this year on only aboyt 12 cards and im not picking the best examples just trying to get all my cards psa no matter what . I do have to say this is makeing me think there is deals to be had out there sitting in other holders but some luck has to be there. Jeff

  • Speaking of GAI crossovers, will this one cross to PSA 8? Everything screams NMMT except for top right corner. It still comes to a point, but has wear as shown in the closeup scan. Opinions appreciated.

Nice FRobby - I've graded a bunch of 1962's, and I'd say 7. A little white on the corner can be excused if the card presents high end, but the corner leads into a soft edge too on this one. At least that's how it appears to me.

  • Looks like some surface scratching to boot, but it is worthless anyways in a GAI holder, so go ahead and take a chance but I would prefer a PSA-6 than a GAI anything!!!!image

I would think PSA would give it a 7, but it would be a high-end 7.

It's a high end 7. GAI probably should've given it a 7.5. I have a GAI 7.5 1962 Maris that looks very similar. I will not be cracking it out, as it's one of the rare times I can get more for it leaving it in the GAI holder than having it in a PSA 7 holder.

  • Thanks for all the feedback on the 62 F Robby. I agree there's a good possibility this would come back a 7 from PSA. Not sure what I'll do with it at this point. It sure would be nice if I could get it in a PSA 8 holder though as off-centered ones have sold on ebay for $1,000+ in the last year or 2.
