Grades back: MS50's ???!!!

Here are a couple of grades that have me scratching my head. Is this the norm?

The Canadian 1c looked to me to be at least BU when I sent it in and The George III Half P. was a very nice AU. imho

1 22114050 1771 1/2 D Gr.Britain MS58
2 22114051 1945 1C CANADA MS50

In this thread, RYK sent in his coin for a review, and it came back MS40. What's up with the graders recently?

I have gotten some AU-58 RB grades before, I've never seen MS below 60.

Odd... but I actually think there should be a MS in the 50 range.

Ever see an old German states minor in billon? They can have stunningly clean fields, sharp strike, etc.. but because of the material and two hundred years of gravity the high points may be gray instead of lustrous. Usually that's not so much friction, certainly not anything that can be considered circulation, so if it's just so rubbed due to two hundred years of good storage it still is Mint State. That is different from AU, where there may be a few more obvious signs of circulation, heavier bag marks etc.

    Just my opinion. image

    Maybe it should have been....

    1 22114050 1771 1/2 D Gr.Britain MS68
    2 22114051 1945 1C CANADA MS60
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
