A tainted coin could be one that has been recolored but got into a holder. It can also be a coin from a questionable source (such as the Large cents that were stolen from the ANS).I've also heard of tainted coins from an unscrupulous dealer who acquired them by unscrupulous means.
Are there any in your registry set ?
In other words does your coins have good Karma (pedigree)

If I had a registry set, I would absolutely put a "tainted coin" in it. All that matters for the registry is the number on the holder. If PCGS says it's so, then it's so.

Good point! Just like the 1963 PR70DCAM Lincoln, the number on the holder sells.
Perhaps that's why a number of sets don't include images of the coins.
They're in PCGS holders, aren't they?
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I've had a few. They are, at best, place holders until I can find a coin more to my liking.

coins of dubious reputation. If I did
find one in my collection, I would probably try to
sell it to Stewart.

not a lot of money that's why I am currently in the top twenty in merc dimes, but in the top 5 of 38 proof sets!
The goal of the Registry is the accumulation of high grades. It makes collecting easy and solvent. Don't bore me with the details of how a coin made the holder. Just show me the holder and say "cheeze".
My registry Flying Eagle cent sets all have good karma (I own them!).
Don't tell me there should be some kind of virginity test for our coins.
