  • you will get a ton of offers off ebay, I seriously doubt it will go on ebay at that price.

I realize alot of people will argue that breaking it up will garner the most money, however, if you do, you cant take paypal because it eats another 3% of your profits while ebay is going to take around 8%.

I think maybe mastro maybe the way to go.

High end collectors often are contactd by the auction houses (especially mastro's rolodex) when a special item is up for sale.

I also know that on an item like that most auction houses wont charge the seller a fee on an item like that.

I wish i did too LOL!

its not my set, I dont even know the seller...I just thought it was a cool set.

There is always talk here about Mastro vs ebay etc...This could be a good case study.

lets say he sells it on ebay for 52 and after fees ( $2000) he nets 50 grand

if he were to sell it on mastro with 15% fee...he would have to sell it for around 59 grand in order to net the same as on ebay.

But the seller would have to actually pay around 67 grand if he bought it for 59 + 15 % juice.

At least thats how it makes sense in my head...it just seems like such a disparity in prices ..is Mastro's list of clients that good?

It has over 1300 hits...maybe the seller is getting off line offers.

How do you ship something like this?

Do you fly and pick it up?

Mastro WILL wave the 15% premium to the seller on an item like this...

so in effect, you are getting free advertising, Mastro's rolodex, and major high rollers (not ebay tire kickers) I personally feel single card sales do extremely well on ebay, whereas, complete sets do better in the high end auction houses.

Plus if you sell singles in that set, you will eventually be left with a bunch of commons that wont even make book, after the "tough" cards sell at really nice premiums.

    just my opinon

The "Duke" just broke up and has been selling a very similar set. SMR seems like the right price to ask.
  • Wouldn't you think he would have scanned the Rose and Mantle?

Y'know for 52k, I'd probably hand deliver the set to someone. I will also say that for a 52k opening bid, adding a few pics wouldn't have upped the price much. And why just a pic of the Gibson? At least post some eye candy... Mays, Robinson, Stargell, Mantle, Rose...

I love that set, in high grade it's one of the more visually appealing sets IMHO.

But they'd still take 17.5% from the buyer, so there would be less of the total price in the sellers pocket. Ebay fees won't be anywhere near that, it's always worth a first shot on ebay.

EBAY is a good way to let everyone know it's available. I think the seller will do o.k. as long as he's not in a hurry to unload it. The way you get in trouble is to build the set at any cost and sell the same set at any price.

That is a tuff item to sell. 52k.............IMO

i agree with listing it again,it is a great way to show that it is for sale. Last yr a 65 set was sold after a few tries on the bay. It was sold for 27K if I remm and it sold a few weeks after it ended (on ebay)

That set may do better being sold piece meal IMO

I would break it up and sell it. More work, but more money in the long run. There are not many $50 K buyers out there on Ebay.
