OT question for eBay sellers about feedback
What is your practice for leaving feedback to buyers??
I am curious, because I have recently noticed a trend for me (as a buyer) that more and more sellers are beginning (or should I say, "returning") to leaving me positive feedback immediately, shortly after PayPal payment is made, before I even receive the item or give them feedback. For a period, it seemed the only way to get feedback as a buyer was to give feedback to the seller, first. I don't mind, as I always leave good feedback. I have never left a neutral or negative feedback (never had a reason to!), and I make sure to leave feedback for each item if it is a multiple purchase. I know that doesn't help the ratings any, but it does give a more accurate perception of the sellers' integrity. I do like the seller leaving me positive feedback like this, it provides a little sense of security knowing that the seller is confident that everything will go smoothly. It also increases that little kiddie factor of waiting for some new goodies in the mailbox.

The one exception to that rule is when someone asks a request such as (paraphrasing here) "please lie on the customs form so I don't have to pay duties." These, I wait until they post feedback. If they don't, c'est la vie.
People with many past successful transactions or otherwise known to me get feedback right away.
If they buy insurance or the item is of very low value also immediate feedback.
More expensive items, especially those sent overseas without registration, I wait for them to go first.
Anyone that sounds unreasonable when communicating gets feedback second, if at all.

Pretty much the same here. I'll usually leave it as soon as I receive PayPal or the payment clears. Sometimes I just forget and leave it after the buyer leaves it.

Although nowhere near James' volume and number of transactions, I follow these same rules. In general, I have long abandonned the "you leave feedback first" method, it shows lack of trust and a negative does not scare me as a concept to begin with. Also, as I mostly sell slabbed examples, the response has always been positive so far.
The problem I have is with some Darksiders.

My only exception is when I ship to certain countries where there are known problems with the mail getting thru. For those, I generally wait until the buyer contacts me to let me know that the item has arrived and that they are satisfied with the purchase.

With car parts its a different story. Those buyers are much more picky than coin buyers. About 50% of the time I wait untill Feedback is received.
