Anybody here know anything about Computers?

For some reason, the brightness on my computer is getting lower and lower and everything has a Red tint to it.

I discovered this as I was looking at some scans on Ebay and I thought the sellers just had bad scans but it was really my computer.

The brightness is at 100% on my computer so I don't have any clue what it could be. My friends told me to just drop it out of a window a couple times but I don't see how that could help.

If anyone can help, I'd be willing to Paypal a few bucks to ya.

Thanks,
Joel

It sounds like, basically, your monitor is shot. You can try borrowing another monitor from someone and seeing if that fixes the problem. If it does, you should probably just buy a new one. It's not really cost-effective to get a monitor repaired.

Typically, this is indication your monitor is on it's last legs. I assume it's an older CRT.

Still, there a few things you can try. Update your video drivers (you may need the latest DirectX also) and also make sure Windows is correctly identifying your monitor and is using the correct .inf file. It should NOT say "Default Monitor" under your destop settings, but rather the brand and model of the actual monitor itself.

Another issue may be just the video card itself. It may be on it's way out, although that's unlikely given your description of your problem. Unless you're shopping for a LCD, I'd just chuck the monitor and get an new one. New CRTs are really cheap these days and more than likely, the cheapest model is still better than what you have now.

My 2 cents (please send me 2 cent via Paypal)... this is usually a problem with the back light starting to go out. As the back light starts to go it no longer produces a clean white light. The red tint is just the color the light is producing.

Speaking of computers, I cannot seem to open the photos of cards on the set registry. Seems I haven't been able to do so since I upgraded to XP. Is there some file I need to view the photos?

    What SFMays said...

It's either the backlight or if one of the tubes starts going bad, you'll have the same problem. You may try degaussing (usually available via the menu, some have a separate button however) this usually only fixes the screen "tweaking" on one side because of magnetics, but worth a shot. It probably is just on it's last legs.

It sounds to me like a CRT monitor with a bad blue and/or green electron gun. Hence, the overly red tint. I had a TV with a bad blue gun, everything skewed green. Annoying as all get out. Much easier and cheaper to buy a new one. Upgrade if you like to an LCD, shouldn't cost too much for a decent one. Or, pick up another CRT for a song.
