1984 D Lincoln cent 'error' date - 2 varieties

One last post for today. I found 2 1984 D Lincoln cents in the same roll years ago. Both have a strange anomaly in the mint mark. In the first pic, the "D" has a small hole under it with metal protruding on the edge. In the second pic, the "D" is very distorted and has a deep hole. One person I sent these scans to said it was due to a dirty die. What do you all think? Thanks!

Split plating that corroded where the zinc is exposed to water, contaminants, the air, sneezing, etc..

No premium value, and not an error.

I agree. The early zinc cents can be very difficult to find without such problems. Complicating
things is that where the zinc is exposed it probably won't be long until the corrosion starts. Even
the mint set coins are often very ugly because of this and the '84-D is the worst of the zinc cents
in the mint sets. Even nice attractive coins can be very few and far between.

This problem was mostly licked in the mint sets by '86 but it was a few more years before the cir-
    culation issues were under control.
