Coin Show in Portland, Maine this Sunday

The Gorham Coin Club will conduct its 60th consecutive semi-annual coin show this Sunday (November 6) in Portland, Maine, at the Holiday Inn - West at Exit 48 of the Maine Turnpike (Riverside Street). The show will have 43 dealer tables (all numismatic material). Hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for the public; dealer set up begins at 7:00 AM. There is no admission charge. This is the largest coin show in Maine, and is very well attended. If you are in northern New England, make a point to attend. I will be staffing the club table and running things, so stop by and chat about coins. Big D (Darin Whittaker) will be there, along with many other quality dealers.

This is a good show with a nice mix of dealers and material.

If you make it to the show, please stop and say hello.

I might add, as an additional attraction, that board member Dismeguy will have on display at the show his NGC Registry Set of Liberty Seated dimes, and will be there to answer questions about his e-book on the series. One of the very few opportunities to see such a comprehensive and high grade collection of Liberty Seated dimes, and it is exclusively at the Gorham Coin Club Show, in Portland, Maine this Sunday.

  • Unfortuntely I have to work otherwise I would have been there when the doors open.
  • For a newbie, can you give some more info as to what will be available? Either way, I plan to be there. It will be my first coin show and am very much looking forward to it.

BTW, does the Gorham Club have a website? I haven't been able to find anything.

    Thanks,
    Marc

    Marc:

There will be a good mixture of numismatic material at the show, predominantly US coins, but also at least one excellent currency dealer, and two ancient dealers. While most dealers will have moderately priced US coins, at least one dealer will have higher priced early type material. Take your time, look at lots of material, and be sure to ask every dealer for specifically what you are looking for.

For more information about the Gorham Coin Club, PM me and I will give you the particulars. We do not presently have a website, although one is in the planning.

  • Thanks for the info. As I'm new at this, I'm not really looking to buy, just wanna see what is out there, and even better that some of it is local.

I'll be sure and track you down and introduce myself.

    Thanks again,

    Marc

Saw the Liberty Seated Dime collection that Mr Fortin brought to the Portland, ME show today. Unsurpassed quality! It was very inspiring to view this wonderful set of dimes.

This was a good show and seemed plenty busy for it's size.

I wasn't able to sell a ton of coins, but was able to buy a fair amount of nice material.

Always a pleasure to sit and chat with Mr. Crain about half dimes and such and the seated dime collection displayed by Mr. Fortin was impressive, to say the least.

I'll be back next fall and looking forward to it. Have to double check those spring dates though...........
