I live in Las Vegas and one of the casino chains has an annual football contest that I enter. All you have to do is pick the winners each week (no spread). Each week, the most winners split $20,000 (one guaranteed $10,000.00 winner) and the most losers split $10,000.00 (one guaranteed $5,000.00 winner). This past week I went 13-1 and still didn't win any money because 3 people went 14-0. I give up!

how many people on average are entered?
To give you an idea of the number of entrants, last week:
3 people went 14-0
100 people went 13-1
805 people went 12-2
3,603 people went 11-3 (I was in this group as well)
7,185 people went 10-4
36 people went 1-13
195 people went 2-12
907 people went 3-11 (I was in this group as too)
1,985 people went 4-10
2,694 people went 5-9
This is probably the biggest contest in Las Vegas. The biggest winners for the entire season split $200,000.00 and the biggest losers split $150,000.00 while the "fiddle-in-the-middle" (50-50 record) entries split $200,00.00 as well.

We've had a weekly NFL pool at my office for about ten years - about 100 people participate and nobody has ever aced the entire board, but you can't expect to win the weekly prize if you have more than 2 losses.
In a contest that attracts thousands of weekly participants, obviously the odds are much better to produce at least a few perfect scores.......we're still waiting for our first one though.
Agreed, only week 2 garnered any $$$ with one loss. I hit the fiddle-in-the-middle last year for $150.00 so I felt a little redemption. This year I just want to hit one week, either most wins or most losses. I don't care which it is.
