SAJ Jefferson Registry Set for Auction

My SAJ Jefferson Registry Sets will be up for auction in the December Bowers' Baltimore Sale. This auction will include the varieties in my set.

Additional coins up for auction not in my registry include:

1964 MS-68FS SMS
1966 MS-65FS (non SMS)
1968-S MS-64FS
1970-S MS-65FS (was in a MS-66 non FS holder at one time)
1997-P MS-70FS SMS

I hope some Jefferson collectors get a chance to enjoy these coins as much as I have.

The 66FS is hidden in a 2 coin lot, look in lot 1498 if you are interested in it. B&M will add a photo of it. The 1965 with it is one nick away from being a full step coin.

Very best of luck in the auction; the Bowers folks do great work and it will be excellent for Jeffersons to get a small turn in the spotlight.

Will there be any non-FS coins offered?

    When in doubt, don't.

    Mark,

I just started collecting MS Jeffs. How long did it take for you to complete the set? I will check out the auction. With whole collections coming onto the market, it is like drinking from a fire hose.

    Hi Badger,

It took me about 5 years to put it together. A lot of the key coins came from the Nevadaman colleciton.

Hey Mark, Can you tell us the stories of how you acquired the 60-d, 61-d, and 63-d Jeffersons? Quite an
accomplishment to have the only full step collection with 100% full step Jeffs.image
  • Mark, what grade is the 45 DDR and how are the steps? What about the 49 D/S?
  • MJPHELANMJPHELAN Posts: 781 ✭✭✭
The 1960-D was part of the Nevadaman collection auctioned by Bowers just over a year ago. According to Steve Wells it belonged to Bernard Nagengast at one point (author of Jefferson Nickel Analyst). Steve said it crossed from an ANACS holder on the first submission.

The 1961-D was bought raw on Ebay (one of the few raw coins I have bought without seeing the coin in hand). It came back full steps on the first pass through at PCGS.

The 1963-D was bought from Steve Wells earlier this year. It did not sell when his original collection sold.

The 1953 has an interesting pedigree as it belonged to the Sistis in the past.

All coins in my collection will go up with no reserve.

The 45 DDR is a MS-65. I don't remember the exact step count, but it is not full steps (weak under the 3rd column if memory serves me correctly)

The 49 D/S is also a MS-65. The steps are about halfway present.

Okay... time to sell a kidney... really... I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see the 66 find a home near me.

If you are looking for the 66 look under lot 1498. They put it in a 2 coin lot! Hopefully they can at least change the internet lot number to give the 66 more recognition.

    Mark,

The lot has a bid... for everybody else... nothing to see there... nothing to see.

  • Congratulations Mark, on putting together a great set. We full-steppers will be missing you.

And best wishes for the auction, which I doubt are necessary, since I'm sure the bidding will be ferocious. Bowers and Merena did a great job for me and I'm sure they'll do likewise for you.

    Warm regards,

    Thanks JHF,

I'm still a FS fan and will submit coins and will still follow all of your collections.

    Mark,

I'm wondering if anyone else here can make out the quality of your coins from the pictures Bowers and Merena have provided. I've checked several other coins in that auction especially the Liberty V nickels and they look fantastic. All the details to most of your coins have been washed out! Does this concern you in any way?

    Hi Leo,

I am very concerned with the quality of the photos. I am working with B&M to try to get that changed.

Just spoke with B&M. They will add a photo of the 66 to lot 1498. Very quick response.

I have been asked about the 1953 Jefferson pictured in the B and M catalog. The lint in the photo is not in the holder. Their web site photo captures the toning on the coin well.
